updated skincare routine, thrifting + reading ✨ad
let us make some breakfast… i actually had this for breakfast at a cafe yesterday and i liked it so much, that i thought, i’m gonna recreate it myself. mmhmmm mmmmm (and other eating sounds of enjoyment) only thing is, my banana wasn’t quite ripe enough.
this is not…what you want. spotty, brown bananas, all the way. it feels like it’s been a really long time since we discussed skincare on this channel and i’m really, really excited to talk you through my latest morning skincare routine.
i am one of those people who got heavily, heavily into skincare during lockdown. i found it a really calming and relaxing ritual on those days that felt like they melted into one. i am really looking forward to sharing this with you and i’m also super delighted to say that this section of the video is sponsored by Ren Clean Skincare.
Over lockdown they easily became my favourite skincare brand and i am just so impressed not only with the efficacy of the products but also with the fact that they are cruelty free, and they are on a zero waste mission.
which you can learn more about in the description box. they also ran a really, really incredible campaign recently called #WeAreAllies where they teamed up with competitor brands in the eco beauty space, to encourage more awareness around the issue of plastic waste.
and it’s just really wonderful to see a brand holding itself accountable so i am super excited to be working with them so, i’m not too fussy when it comes to cleanser, i have to admit. but i’m currently using this cleansing oil by By Sarah and i use quite a generous amount.
rub it between my hands and then use this as an opportunity to give myself a little facial massage. you will also notice that i’m not wearing any jewellery, and that is because i panic about the jewellery.
. kind of, getting involved with all the oil… make sure i come down to my neck. now, if i’ve been wearing make-up, i’ll do a double cleanse, but generally in the morning i just do a single cleanse.
and then i will just grab a muslin cloth, go and get that wet and take it [the product] off, which I’m going to go and do now… and I’ll see you back in a second. next up is time for toner.
i am currently using this liquid radiance glyconic toner by Evolve. i just take two pumps of this and kind of splash it on my face and then let that dry a little bit you can of course apply toner using a re-usable cotton pad, but i actually think a pair of clean hands, does the job just great.
next, it’s time for serum, and i absolutely love this radiance perfection serum by our friends at Ren Clean Skincare. now the reason why i love this is because i find it really brightening and really smoothing and really energising.
i’m actually going to start with just one pump. and it just gliiiiiiides onto the skin. i’m going to take another pump, just for my neck. [indecipherable sound] and i know you’re supposed to go in upward strokes next up i’m going to use an eye cream.
i’m absolutely obsessed with eye creams and that is because i am personally prone to ageing most just around my eye area i am just in love with this one, it is so so good. have i said what it is? i don’t think i have.
it’s the brightening dark circle eye cream by Ren. i put it on the finger closest to my pinky and then i just start to tap it around my eyes. and then also here, which is, where i smile. Ren actually use Elderberry Flower Extract which is a zero-waste byproduct of the French perfume industry what’s more, the packaging of this product is actually an industry-first which is so cool.
this new packaging includes certified recycled plastic, made through groundbreaking technology that can recycle mixed plastic waste otherwise destined for incineration or landfill. and this just helps Ren keep all of their products in circularity.
just in terms of efficacy this is easily my favourite eye cream i have ever used. on to moisturiser, i’ve been using this moisturiser on-and-off for the past one or two years, i absolutely love it.
it is the ren evercalm moisturiser. when i stopped using this last, i genuinely missed it, so i’m feeling very, very grateful to have it back in my life. so this product contains natural seed oils, which are obviously very nourishing and very moisturising, but it also helps protect against things like pollution, and as a london dweller that is something is my skin really feels.
i will use that much and again i will just moisturise that in the packaging is also made from recycled plastic which we love to see. at this point of my skincare routine i kind of want things to absorb a little bit more, so i will do things – if i haven’t already – like use a deodorant.
now it’s time for the final and probably most important step of my skincare routine, and that is of course SPF. this is Ren’s clean screen mineral SPF. it’s vegan and not only does it offer UVA and UVB protection, it also offers Blue Light protection, and as someone who spends a lot of time in front of my laptop and in front of my phone, i find this really, really helpful.
if you are someone whose skin is on the more oily side, i would really, really recommend this as it is quite mattifying. i just find it very, very effective, i feel really, really protected when i use it.
don’t believe Gwyneth Paltrow, you need more than you think you do and more is definitely more, more is not less when it comes to SPF. i will also just put a little bit on my eyelids as well with any skincare, always rub the excess on your hands.
your hands love it. now i can get a bit more dressed. now, on the days that i do wear makeup, i will go in and put makeup on, but on the days i’m not wearing any makeup, the only thing i do is put on some brow gel.
and this is just to add a bit of shape and colour. this is literally perfect timing as my main camera just ran out of battery! but this is the one i’m using it’s the Bare Minerals Strength and Length one.
that brings us to the end of the skincare routine! i am due on my period and i can start to feel a bit like i’m losing my mind so i am gonna take the opportunity to go and visit the charity shops.
this is something that i haven’t done, for months and months and months and months and months. they’ve been open a couple of weeks here in the UK, but i am yet to go and enjoy them so i’m going to take myself out for a little charity shop run, and see if i find anything that i absolutely love.
and just get out of the house, get out of my head, listen to a podcast…do all of that good stuff. hello – it has turned into such a lovely day, the sun is properly out and i am really taking the advice of my best friend Lottie Murphy, and I’ve just looked after myself today.
i sat and read my book with some banana bread and i also took myself to a couple of charity and vintage stores, which i haven’t done in a really, really long time. and it was fun! i didn’t really find all that much, apart from one thing.
.. it’s quite hard for me to find jeans that suit my figure. if high-waisted things are too tight, i get really, really bad stomach aches and i’m in agony and it’s just a whole thing. but i found some perfect Levi’s, vintage denim 501s, in the colour that i was after and they fit like a dream and they’re like spacious enough that i know i’m not going to get stomach aches in them which is always my like number one thing.
i just got all excited about these jeans and wanted to style them up. so i’ve got my oldest thing i own, i think, which is this vintage Chicago Bulls jacket. and i’ve put that with a little matching top and cardigan from AYM – they do everything made to order and these pieces took, like, i dunno? a month? to come, maybe? maybe longer? then we have the jeans, obviously and i’ve paired them with my Celine shoes that I got from Vestiare Collective.
they have this really chunky flatform heel which i am obsessed with and this, kind of, yellow stitching. absolutely love these. this is the book that i’m currently reading. it is ‘what it feels like for a girl’ by Paris Lees.
i’ve been a Paris Lees enthusiast for a while so i was super excited when i heard that she was bringing out a new book. this is out on the 27th may, this is a very, very joy inducing early copy, for reasons that i’m not going to say, but i’m sure you will be able to anticipate.
and Paris is just such a fantastic writer. so this book is a memoir. it’s about her time growing up and going out in a place called Hucknall and she just creates such a vivid world that is just all encompassing and it’s just so vivid.
every chapter is named after a song from the time, so at the start of each chapter i’m like “ooooh baby” and i’m just like singing along to all the amazing songs that i grew up with as well.
she creates a world that i would say isn’t too dissimilar to the feeling you get from watching shows like ‘it’s a sin’ or ‘skins’, kind of this exceptional portrayal of British culture that is like a little bit niche and not everyone would necessarily be familiar with, but they can really understand.
i’m OBSESSED with it. i will leave the link for the book for you to pre-order or buy in the description box because i just cannot recommend it enough. and also check out her interviews on YouTube.
she’s done one with Emma Watson which is fantastic and a couple of others as well, she’s an exceptional interviewer, and just all round amazing human so would really, really recommend this.
yes, i’m in my dressing gown, this is how i spend my evenings when i’m in the flat. we had the best delivery ever from LoveRaw which, as you know, in my opinion, is one of the best vegan chocolate brands out there.
and i was gonna try one of the new white wafers, on camera, to give you my feedback. oh yeah. REVIEW: perhaps because it’s sweeter because it’s white chocolate, i would argue that it’s more similar to the original Kinder Bueno bar if i had to choose between the two, i would go for the normal one, but this is like a nice refreshing change.
having said that, upon second bite, there’s something about this one that’s very nostalgic to me. this really reminds me of being, I dunno? 14? 15? when kinder buenos first came out and they were all the hype.
it is reeeeally good. i’m just so impressed with this company. and everything that they ever do.
