TikTok Skincare Mistakes, Tips And..WTF’s?! – Please Don’t Do This ✖ James Welsh
Hello everybody. Welcome back to my channel, where we talk about skincare, grooming, and sometimes hair. So that sounds like your thing, make sure you are subscribed. Also, come and follow me on Instagram where I post a lot of stuff you’re not gonna see here on YouTube.
Today we’re taking another look at the world of skincare TikTok. I’ve seen just what in the hell is going on over there, because there is a lot of things I’m being tagged in that I’m loving, so keep tagging me.
We’re going to be looking at skincare mistakes, hacks, and some actually good advice today. As always, I’m not a licensed expert in any way when it comes to skincare, so whenever I”m looking at these types of videos I’m just kind of putting myself in those situations, and thinking about how my skin would react in these situations.
Here’s a hack that’s already getting some traction on TikTok and I’m in two minds about this and I’ll show you why. “So I’ve been seeing these Hydro Correlated Band-Aids all over TikTok recently, and I decided to go last night and buy some and try it out for myself.
So basically, you put these like, on your face. Wherever you have acne or just trouble areas and you sleep in it overnight, and it’s supposed to take out all the bacteria, all that nasty stuff in there.
So I just want to try and see how it would work. Also, the thing that I bought, it came with three big ones, so I had to cut one in half… as you’re about to see. Sweet. Yeah, so here I cut them, like in half, and I put some.
.. because like one of them was way too big for my forehead. So I had to cut in half and put one on my chin and the other one on my forehead. But honestly, when I woke up, overall you can like see the spots, like, there’s like little white dots on them in the morning.
As you can see here, where I had all my pimples at and it was super nasty. If you guys want to see how it looks after just let me know, and I’ll post it but overall I give it a 10/10.” Okay, here’s why I’m in two minds about this particular hack.
As you can see, those band-aids worked absolutely fine. After all, that’s all pimple patches are, they’re just tiny versions of these giant band-aids. It’s used in hospitals, they’re just smaller, smaller versions now.
.. and that’s great, that works absolutely fine. I personally wouldn’t put it all over my face like that, I would just use it in concentrated areas because it doesn’t absorb bacteria, that’s not how they work.
But there are versions of this hack where people are using blister patches. So you know the ones you put on the back of your heels, or you know, anywhere where shoes are going to be rubbing up against you.
And this is where I’m a bit like, oh you’ve got to be careful with this one, because different patches are going to use different adhesives right? So blister patches are made to stay on your feet, so they might, in some cases, have a stronger adhesive.
So that when that shoe is rubbing against your foot or rubbing gets wherever it’s causing blisters, it’s not going to fall off easily and you’re not going to get that kind of adhesive with pimple patches, right.
Patches are made to go on your face. So sometimes they can be a little bit too sticky, and actually cause some damage, but what I like about singular pimple patches is that you get a lot more in a pack, it lasts many, many times over, instead of buying these three massive patches and using them in one night.
So yeah, it’s an interesting hack, but you’ve got… you’ve got to be careful with what ones you buy. Okay, I was tagged non-stop in the next one on Instagram and TikTok as well, so let’s, let’s talk about this one.
This is about a DIY sheet mask. A zero waste sheet mask. “Reusable sheet masks are actually really easy to make. Take an old t-shirt and cut out the shape of a sheet mask around the size of your whole hand, then fill a bowl with hot water.
Add Green Tea, and then add your favorite serums, essences. I added Chia oil in here and finished up the bottle. People don’t realize that sheet masks are really just materials soaked in a serum-like formula, and that’s what you’re recreating here.
Now fold up your sheet mask and soak it in your formula bowl for at least a couple minutes. Then apply this to your skin for five to ten minutes for glowy and bright skin. And then just wash it out and hang dry for next time.
” So there’s a few things that I’m like, yes and no with this one. Basically sheet masks, as the lady says, are just masks covered and soaked in serum and what the cotton or gauze, whatever material, they do like gel ones now as well.
What that layer is doing, is just creating an occlusive layer so that your serum whatever, hydration, is staying in the skin for as long as possible. My issue with this particular hack is the pen, first of all.
Don’t use a pen like, maybe use like a wash off marker, wash it and then use it. But also, what I would do here is apply the serum to my skin first. What I think you’re doing, when you’re dripping serum within the green tea, is you’re not getting that even spread of serum.
That’s what happens whenever we mix stuff together, whenever we try and play chemists. You’re not gonna get like, an even spread. Sheet masks are made with particular kinds of cottons and weaving and threads, and all that kind of stuff, to allow the product to actually get onto your skin.
Things like t-shirts, cotton like this, can hold on to a lot of moisture and a lot of product as well. I personally, where is it… if you want a good reusable sheet mask, I mentioned this, this is the Experiments Avant-Garde sheet mask, and it’s just a silicone, silicone mask that you can use over, and over, and over, and you just rinse it in hot water when you want to clean it.
It’s really, really easy to use. I use that every day, I have been for like the last three months. So yeah, whilst this isn’t… that it is not that bad a hack, and it makes perfect sense, I would maybe do a little bit differently by applying that product first.
Making the DIY sheet must slightly damp just so it sticks to the skin, and then, not using pen on it, I guess, The idea’s is there, you just want to ensure that all that product goes on your skin, that serum goes on your skin, and not to waste.
Okay, let’s look at this one. [Music] I’m gonna keep this one very short. There’s no scientific evidence or backing that semen is good for your skin. Can I leave it there? I’m gonna leave it there. Okay, let’s take a look at the next one.
I love these videos where couples give each other like, a face treatment and like, do a routine that, that they probably wouldn’t have ever had. It’s usually always straight couples as well. I was tagged in this a lot again.
“You are glowing!”. His skin looks so good at the end of that, it looks glowing like… Okay, so there’s a few things though. So number one, love this first of all, I don’t care if anything was wrong, they were having a good time and he looks amazing by the end of it.
That exfoliating brush, you know the spinning brush, looked actually very, very gentle. It didn’t look too intrusive, it didn’t look like your typical old-fashioned Clarisonic. The bristles look very, very, very soft.
Once in a while, it’s not the worst thing in the world, I prefer my silicone brushes personally. Then they go on to the pore vacuum, which I… I just don’t like these. For myself, I feel like they do more damage than you can do good.
Usually what you see on the tip is not like, whatever’s come out of your pores, it’s usually just the surface oils that you’re scraping off. And then, they then go in with a nose pour strip. Which, again, once in a while isn’t the worst thing in the world.
But, I think after doing the pore vacuum, and then the nose pull strip… really you should have got everything you wanted to get out of your nose, with nose-pore strip, with the poor vacuum. Just kind of goes to show that the pore vacuum doesn’t really do anything.
A little bit of lip balm. Also, here’s the thing as well, they applied a lip balm, a very occlusive layer, then put the lip mask over the top. Maybe should have done that the other way around. But, they did the eye patches in the right step, with the sheet mask in the right step as well.
The Jade rollers do feel very nice on the face, and whilst the technique that she was using maybe, probably didn’t do anything really. It’s just nice and relaxing, and you know what, they’re having a good f**king time.
And then she applied the serum, another serum, fine. We know we don’t use the dropper, but, you know, but I don’t think he actually made contact with the skin either. You know what, either way, he looks amazing at the end, he likes how he looks at the end.
Yeah, I love videos like that. Okay, let’s look at this one. “You must stop washing your face with hot water, it’ll strip your skin of its natural oils and lipids, cause premature aging, and possibly more acne.
Use cold water to wash your face, and do face icing twice a day. Reduce puffiness, inflammation, help with acne and combat wrinkles. Coconut milk is a natural antibacterial and will give you the best glow.
” So I posted a whole video about icing my skin, doing ice massages, and ice facials for a week. I had a really good chat with Cassandra Bankson about the pros and cons of using, of using ice. Everything, Tina Craig her name is, mentioned that ice is good for your skin, has no scientific backing.
There’s no real evidence to prove any of this. After trialing it myself, I personally didn’t see anything other than a lot of rebound redness with my rosacea. It can actually be very bad for your skin, I definitely wouldn’t do it two times a day.
It definitely eliminates puffiness temporarily. As far as reducing oiliness and acne, personally for me, with my oils I didn’t see any difference whatsoever. Again, no scientific backing behind this whatsoever.
Doesn’t mean it’s not true, it just means like, it’s been tested and there’s no real evidence to prove this, any reason why it would do this. Just use a very gentle cleanser in the morning. You can use a cleansing oil, a cleansing balm that’s not going to strip your skin and a lot of people opt not to wash their face in the morning.
There’s very split opinions on that, a lot of Dermatologists say don’t cleanse your face in the morning. You don’t have to. A lot of Dermatologists say you have to, so it’s a little bit confusing, but do what’s best for your skin.
[Bark] [Bark] [Bark] [Bark] [Bark] But yes, do go and watch that video. Me and Cassandra Bankson have a huge chat about the pros and cons, and the “evidence” behind ice facials. So there we have some more TikTok skincare videos.
Some of them are good, some of them are like, questionable. And some of them are just nice. I’ve been loving scrolling through TikTok at the moment as well. I’m not that active on there, I mainly use it for a few sponsored posts, but I plan to like hopefully do more on there eventually.
I don’t really know. But keep tagging me on TikTok and on Instagram. I love scrolling through these videos. But that is it from me, I will see you next time.
