The Truth About Lancôme Skin Care
hello hi everyone welcome to skincare
with higher if you don’t know who I am
my name is Hiram and I’m passionate
about teaching you how to perfect your
skincare routine so make sure you
subscribe to my channel and hit the
notification bell so that you can see my
videos every single week that wasn’t on
time every single week I remember when I
first started my channel I envisioned
making this video and even back then I
knew this was gonna be a shady cooking
video and I’ve put it off for so long
because I was like Hyrum you know we
don’t need this like I feel like this is
already well known people probably
already know how you feel about this
brand you don’t need to say anything
but you guys have been filling my
inboxes and comments sections with
requests for me to talk about Lancome
products and I finally came to a point
to where I was like you know what I have
no choice
so many people don’t know my opinion on
that and they need to know the truth
because this is not gonna be pretty ah
okay let’s get into it so similar to all
my brand review videos I’m going to
first talk a little bit about the brand
then go through the products and talk
about each of the ingredients and
formulations than what my personal
opinions are on them because ingredients
are what truly matter bitch and then
following up with my final thoughts on
the brand and whether it is worth it or
not
now Lancome is one of the og oldest
skincare brands out there it started as
its own brand Lancome and then grew into
the massive empire that it is today
owning like a huge stake of the skincare
industry like Lancome owns so many
different skincare and makeup brands out
there today which is probably why it’s
never gonna die and also probably why
they’re never gonna listen to what I
have to say about it but you know I’m
still trying Lancome if you’re watching
please take notes but I definitely think
Lancome represents the older generation
of skincare we are starting to see with
more and more skincare brands coming out
today that there are two very different
focuses with the older generation it’s
typically a more focused on the feel of
the product what the packaging is like
how does it smell a very sensorial
experience that’s made to make skincare
a lot of fun and enjoyable while today
there’s a lot more information about
skincare to where people are under able
to understand actives and non actives
what’s going to treat specific concerns
dupes for more expensive brands and
different things like that and Lancome
is definitely one of the Keith stone old
generation skincare companies in my
opinion they are also a luxury brand
some of their products are extremely
expensive so I tell a lot of luxury
brands that you find a different
department stores they have varying
levels of prices like when you go to
Macy’s you’ll find that the products
range from like 50 to $200
then if you gotta like Saks Fifth Avenue
you find that some of the products go up
to $1,000 which is just fucking insane
why would anyone ever spend $1,000 I
don’t even understand it makes literally
no sense but anyway now in this video
I’m not gonna be focusing on those super
expensive products I’m moreso just going
to focus on the most popular products
from the brand the ones that you guys
request the most and the ones that I see
the most people buying like always I’m
going to lease these from my least
favorite to my favorite product starting
with these genifique youth activating
serum you heard that right bitch this is
my least favorite product in the entire
line now let’s talk about ingredients
one of the primary ingredients in this I
believe it’s the second ingredient is
bifida ferment
I think that’s how you browse that I
don’t know and bifida Firma is known to
be a really good antioxidant which is
great for combating free radical damage
within the air but it’s also really good
for reducing sensitivity and irritation
within the skin I personally really like
this ingredient and it’s hard to find in
a lot of products which makes me think
that Lancome signature ingredient is
bifida ferment but you can also find it
in other skincare products which is why
I’m like it’s probably not a signature
ingredient or exclusive ingredients but
whatever but this serum is also
formulated with glycerin a great
standard hydrating ingredient that you
can find in the majority of skincare
products as well as sodium hi all and
rate which is concentrated form of
hyaluronic acid that works good for
drawing in a moisture from the
environment and pulling it deep into the
skin those are all the good things that
I’m about to sweep them all away with a
negative aspects of this product because
the thing that turned me off so quickly
when I saw this product was that the
fourth ingredient is de nature to
alcohol donate your alcohol in a serum
why the fuck is it there if you are
familiar denatured alcohol is typically
used in products that are more
formulated for oily skin because they
help to really dissolve away all the oil
on the surface of the skin which makes
it more ideal for people with oily skin
and it’s also a delivery agent helping
ingredients to penetrate deeper into the
skin but Denisha alcohol is very
stripping can cause inflammation and
irritation and whenever I see it within
the first five or six ingredients I run
away because that shit should not be
that high up on the ingredient list but
here’s what blew me away when I saw it
in this product this product is marketed
towards an older demographic now people
with older skin the majority of the time
typically have very dry skin so
denatured alcohol is one of the worst
possible ingredients that you could use
on someone who has dry skin because it’s
not only going to overly strip their
skin it could cause sensitivity and
irritation and then I realized why they
probably used this ingredient in this
product and why so many luxury skincare
brands do use so much denatured alcohol
well my opinion today alcohol is bad for
the skin it looks amazing the first time
you use products with a high
concentration of denatured alcohol
you’re like damn my skin looks smooth it
looks mattified it looks great but you
aren’t aware of the long-term damage
that could come alongside using a
product with a high concentration of it
and the fact that it is in a serum which
in my opinion the only time I should see
to nature alcohol is in a sunscreen but
not only that an anti-aging serum
marketed towards people with typically
dry skin
I found that soceity and honestly even a
little bit sneaky because it makes me
think that the brand is more focused on
giving people short term results but
doesn’t care about the long-term health
of the skin to the point to where it
will make people become reliant on this
product because they will see the
short-term results fall in love with it
but then continually damage their skin
as they continue to use it for the long
term another ingredient has and bear
with me I had to pronounce this once
before and it was a bitch hydroxy FL
piperazine Athena sulphonic acid now
this ingredient is a delivery agent
similar to denatured alcohol however it
has been found that this ingredient can
trigger free radical damage which
completely offsets any benefits that you
would see from the bifida ferment that
they use as an antioxidant to combat
free radical damage and in my opinion
does not belong in a product and then
the icing on the shit that is this
product is that it has fragrance urine
it’s formulated with limonene Citronelle
and fragrance not only are these
ingredients not good for the skin you
shouldn’t have them in the skincare
product when you pair them with two
different delivery agents this means
that the fragrance is going to be
delivered deep into your skin causing
more irritation more long-term damage
and sensitivities so overall this
product is just terrible it’s just bad
please do not buy this product
especially for the price point 192
dollars for you to fuck up your skin I
think not to thank you next the next
product from them is the genifique eye
cream which retails for $67 which is
expensive for an eye cream eye creams
are not necessary in the skincare
routine for me the
so I will spend for an eye cream is $15
because otherwise I’m fine just using a
moisturizer on the under eye area
because it’s basically the same thing
but as far as beneficial ingredients
this does have a siloxane so Locke
Saints are good for providing kind of
like a slip to a product but also
preventing against trans epidermal water
loss but it’s not like the most amazing
thing in the world it’s just like a good
ingredient it also has the bifida
ferment glycerin and sodium hi Ellen
rate as well so good hydrating
ingredients but denatured alcohol is the
sixth ingredients in this ingredient
list denatured alcohol does not belong
anywhere in a skincare product but it
especially does not belong in an eye
cream that is the absolute last place
you want to find to nature alcohol
because the eye cream tends to get very
dry is the most sensitive area on the
face where you will see the most
irritation so it’s just it’s terrible
not only that while this is formulated
with the beneficial siloxane the eye
cream also has four different silicones
which is pushing it a little bit for how
many silicones I’m comfortable with
using in a product but it is up to the
individual it also has titanium dioxide
and mica both of which are completely
unnecessary in an eye cream titanium
dioxide and mica are added to add this
like pearlescent shimmery appearance but
I’m personally not a fan of mica because
usually mica is sourced very unethically
very unsustainably like literally they
will use child slaves to source mica
that’s how bad it is whenever I see mica
in a skincare product I typically just
do not buy it because I don’t know where
it’s coming from and as well the eye
cream is also formulated with such L&L
and fragrance in an eye cream fragrance
in our eye cream that is the biggest no
that is literally like one of the main
rules in skincare do not put fragrance
in an eye cream hmm see this is why I
didn’t want to make this video for so
long it stresses me the fuck out because
the ingredient lists are just so bad
from this brand they’re so bad pass on
the eye cream it’s terrible the next
product is the aura and there she will
see I don’t know I’ve been failed French
okay so renergie lift multi-action and
night cream which retails for 122
dollars as for beneficial ingredients is
formulated with glycerin which is great
you know good hydrating ingredient but
you can literally find it at every
single drugstore moisturizer out there
it’s pretty much in every product I’ve
seen so nothing really about special it
also has apricot
a good hydrating oil as well as shea
butter another really good hydrating
ingredient but relatively inexpensive as
well black tea which is known for its
antioxidant properties as well as sodium
high all in a race so this does have
some good hydrating ingredients but
guess what ingredient it’s also
formulated with you guessed right bitch
denatured alcohol this time is to the
ninth ingredient which honestly is not
the worst thing in the world I would
forgive that but this product is also
formulated with a really high
concentration of both red and yellow dye
I’m not the person to like completely
avoid dyes but when they’re in a really
high concentration
I get personally worried as well as
hexyl cinnamon and fragrance both of
which are fragrant components not good
like I said before denatured alcohol is
a delivery agent so it’s just gonna
deliver those fragrance ingredients deep
into your skin causing sensitivity and
irritation we want to avoid that
especially for $122 the second to last
product is their hydrating comfort toner
which retails for up to fifty two
dollars again so expensive for a toner
it’s just it’s ridiculous um as far as
beneficial ingredients is formulated
with glycerin big whoop yay for Lancome
for anything with the most basic ass
hydrating ingredients at a premium price
point as well as a beneficial siloxane
but that’s about it as far as good
ingredients as far as negative
ingredients fragrance is high up on the
ingredient list in even higher
concentration than sodium high all in a
rate which communicates to me that this
is formulated with more than one percent
fragrance which is a huge no-no in my
opinion if a product does have fragrance
it should be well well well below 1% the
ideal percentage would be point 1
percent so that’s red flag to me it also
is formulated with a high concentration
of dyes as well as hexyl cinema another
fragrant component so this toner you
know it’s not as bad as the other
ingredients but it’s certainly not
anything amazing and definitely not a
product I would recommend and then for
the final product which shockingly
I actually really like this product I
never thought I would really like a
product from Lancome but here we are it
is their bee Fasil makeup remover which
retails for up to $40 this product works
so well for removing all types of makeup
from across the face like literally
every time I’ve had to use this on
clients to remove thick-ass eye makeup
like I’m talking like layers and layers
of mask
I shadow and cut crease this product
comes through every single time it’s
literally so good and I found myself
using it on clients or on myself when I
used to wear makeup all over my face
because it just dissolves the impurities
so well the only downside to this
product is that it is formulated with
fragrance but I don’t find it to be
problematic because it is a wash off
treatment after you use a makeup remover
you should always follow up with the
facial cleanser so I don’t see it as
problematic at all and personally I have
yet to find another makeup remover that
performs as well as this one does so
lion comes doing something right because
this product is great I do have to say
that and it’s definitely the type of
product that I would feel justified
spending that amount of money for yes
it’s kind of expensive but it’s also not
insane because you don’t have to use
very much of the product it’s just a
really good one I personally I’m a fan
of it okay and now we come to my final
thoughts on the brand’s overall looking
at this brand I really don’t have many
positives like I said before the only
product that I really like is their be
physio makeup remover but that just
happens to be uh Nanami Lee because the
majority of formulations of their
products are just terrible they have
very few high quality ingredients and
usually those ingredients are just ones
that you can find in the most basic ass
drugstore products like siave or
Cetaphil so there aren’t really anything
super special all of their products are
highly highly fragrance time talking
like you open the jar and you smell it
from a mile away that’s how bad it is
which yes is normal for luxury skincare
I understand them the majority of luxury
skincare products do have fragrance but
that does not change the irritating
components that come alongside fragrance
and the education that we need to spread
about fragrance being damaging to the
skin and then finally I am not
comfortable with the high concentration
of denatured alcohol that they put in so
many of their products I only touched on
three products that include them but
literally so many of their serums and
eye creams and moisturizers also include
denatured alcohol which is just an
ingredient that is so not necessary in
these products why are they formulating
with such a low quality cheap and
irritating ingredient I don’t understand
so with all of this in mind am I telling
you guys to go get your pitchforks and
go to the comments section of Lancome
post and hate on them forever
yes bitch exactly no no I’m not what I
really want this video to do is to
encourage positive change the reason why
I create these truth about videos is to
help brands understand that they could
definitely improve
their products from a formulation
perspective realized that customers and
clients are looking at the ingredient
list and making the decision not to
purchase products because of certain
ingredients that they used I think
Lancome could be such a powerful
skincare brand in the future if they
were to change their formulas and
personally I believe if they don’t
change their formulas it’ll actually be
the reason that they die more and more
consumers are becoming really educated
about the products that they use and
it’s been overwhelming to see how many
people tend to go towards fragrance free
products and how many brands are
releasing fragrance free lines in order
to accommodate the changing market and
Lancome is one of those brands that’s so
stuck in the old generation and is still
doing great on sales from the older
generation but as far as the younger
clientele is going to be suffering a lot
in the future if they don’t get their
shit together and start making products
with some really good formulations the
industry is changing and Lancome either
needs to adapt to it or die in the
process I know that sounds dramatic but
that’s literally how capitalism works
anyway what are your guys thoughts on
this brand I want to here down below do
you share the same very shady opinions
that I have or do you not I really want
to hear your thoughts let me know what
other brands you wanted me to review in
the future and if you haven’t already be
