The Scoop on Sculptra®: Anti-aging that lasts years!
Hey everyone Melanie here with Empire Eye and Laser Center. I am here today to show you guys a live treatment of Sculptra being injected into our patient. Rachel, which most of you probably know Rachel she’s our aesthetic consultant.
so she’s all things knowledge when it comes to what to do here and also somebody who gets treatments and is ready for a maintenance treatment with Sculptra. so Sculptra as we hopefully have let you already know is a collagen.
Treatment so it’s very unique in the way that it creates new collagen in the skin by stimulating the growth of it through this injection process. It’s great for treating areas of volume loss on the face also improving the skin texture on the neck and chest and even building volume on the glutes, which is pretty unique for a non surgery option.
So for Rachel when I look at her as far as a maintenance treatment, she has a little bit of volume loss in the temples. It’s not terrible because we’ve done Sculptra there a few years ago, so it’s just again time for pick me up and a maintenance.
she gets a little bit of volume loss in her cheeks. These are honestly her natural cheeks. They look fabulous, so we’re just really trying to build new collagen to keep her looking as youthful as she does so Sculptra already made some improvements for her.
and now we’re just helping to maintain that. so the traditional areas that we see areas of volume loss, then we’ll do the neck and chest because everybody needs anti aging on their neck and chest. Yes, so as a disclaimer, Sculptra is an injectable treatment, we mix it with numbing medicine and then it’s actually fairly comfortable to do to receive for the patient, but it is a needle in the skin.
A couple of injection spots you’re going to have a little bit of blood loss, not a lot, but just so you’re aware before you start the temples is an area. A lot of people don’t consider getting treated or don’t think about needing treatment there, but I would argue that we should frame the face from the top down.
So it’s important for helping to gather this appearance of a lift in the cheeks when our temples have a nice contour as we know that Sculptra is creating new collagen, it’s important to consider when we start experiencing collagen loss.
so around the age of thirty we lose collagen every year and we’re not creating any new collagen anymore. So as a preventative maintenance treatment, Sculptra is great to start early. It’s never too late to start.
It’s just going to require more vials. The older we get meaning the more collagen loss we’ve experienced. When we’re planning out a Sculptra treatment and how many vials we’re using, it depends on some different variables like how much volume loss the patient’s experiencing what we’re trying to achieve.
you know what our goals are and what area we’re treating for most patients. A good rule of thumb for the face is honestly two to four vials. One of the admittedly frustrating parts about Sculptra is how long it takes to kick in.
so we don’t see results with Sculptra for about 6 months to a year unlike traditional fillers where we see the results immediately, but then the body just starts breaking that down over time, traditional fillers only last about 6 months to a year, whereas once that Sculptra is visible, It’s going to last you up to 5 years and the results are gradual.
So no one knows what you’ve had done tomorrow. She’ll look back to normal and fine, and then with the gradual results, it’s not apparent that anything’s been done or been changed very natural appearing.
So with Rachel, we did a lower face filler treatment about a week ago, so why I just want you to know that is because you can concurrently not on the same day, but around the same time do both treatments.
So you have the sort of immediate benefit that filler will give you and then the long-lasting benefit that Sculptra is going to give her when it kicks in. so she’ll have the immediate benefit of filler, but well that’s starting to go away and the body is starting to absorb it.
The Sculptra will start kicking in and she’ll just always look good. The only thing to really know that’s important after Sculptra treatment is for 5 days. Need to massage the area, The massage helps to keep the Sculptra spread out.
It helps activate it so it starts going to work for you. I will always do a massage for the patient while you’re still in the office, so I can kind of walk you through how to do it. There’s a little bit of a technique to it, but it’s also not hard.
We just want to make sure that we’re keeping things spread out and then we’re massaging deep into the tissue. The product is placed deeply so regardless of how sore you might be tomorrow, you don’t want to do a light massage ‘cuz that’s not going to.
Do anything for the Sculptra? It’s also important that I’ll cover the areas we treated so you’ll remember which spots are important to massage as far as downtime. There really is no true downtime again.
you might be sore and tender, and that varies per individual. So even if you don’t have a bruise, that’s black and blue, you may feel like doing a massage as tender as if you had a bruise, I would encourage you to just power through that and still do a deep massage.
The temples tend to be. An area that are uniquely sore ‘cuz. it may hurt to open your mouth really wide or to chew a steak. So you know no big anniversary dinner is coming up after the treatment and for the massage 5 minutes, five times a day for 5 days.
good time to get that in is first thing in the morning. When you wash your face, make your routine take a little longer than I normally would, and then in the evening when you go to bed, there’s two of your massages.
How are you feeling right? Good How was the treatment? It’s very easy. Do you have any pain or tenderness right now? Nope. I do feel a little numb right now. so Sculptra is one of my favorite treatments and Melanie is very experienced in doing it, which is one of my favorite things about it too.
But I do love the option of getting it for my neck and chest because there’s just not a lot of options for neck and chest. I think there are a lot of people that don’t pay attention to the fact that their neck and chest is also aging with the face.
Not one treatment alone is going to be the be all end all for it, so I recommend skin care topical products. The Sculptra is going to work really well too for that kind of crepe skin that just doesn’t look very smooth, especially when we’re side sleepers and we get that crepe skin on the chest right here.
The Sculptra is going to be great for just helping to smooth out the area and give a fresh glow for the skin. so unlike on the face where we’re trying to create new volume in areas of volume. Loss for the neck and chest, We’re really just trying to improve the skin quality.
so we’re injecting it very superficially into the skin just very at a lighter depth, which is why it’s leaving these little blobs. They’ll go down over the next couple of hours and then it’ll look like nothing happened.
as far as downtime, you can see she might have little pinpoint bruises where some of the spots are, which is going to be a little bit more apparent because of the pattern marking that something’s been done, but they only last a few days.
Or so they don’t last very long. so we know that Sculptra is going to take months to start working and start being able to appreciate the results. Unfortunately since they’re going to be so good, but there are definitely faster options that can give us a quick beautiful improvement that we should be doing in conjunction with the sculptra so lasers like our Pico laser right here or a photofacial laser.
The Bbl great for helping with pigmentation and redness to give a fresh glow. Also microtox, using micro Botox to help with the lines and wrinkles that can be a really fast pick me up before a big event.
I think all the weddings are starting to get back on track. so we need to keep that in mind too. If Sculptra is something you think you would be interested in we would love to have you come in and see Rachel or myself so that we can talk about a plan how many vials you would need to achieve the results that you’re desiring.
We’d love to see you. This is my favorite treatment. Nothing else creates collagen the way that Sculptra does, so I would love to have you come sit in my chair.
