subscribe like this video if you’re interested in skincare because that is what I’m offering up always and as a holistic skin care expert I get asked tons of the same questions on my Instagram a lot of them are skincare related and recently I put up a little question box to get all of your questions and I really wanted to get deep into some skincare topics that you are interested in we’re talking what oils to use for what skin types things to prevent aging things to address acne I mean we’re talking about it all but before I get into the Q&A I thought it would be fun to share just a little day in the life and what Nate and I are doing during quarantine since we actually had a really fun quarantine day today so take a look at will you oh my goodness it feels so good to get that mess cleaned up have laundry going right now I organized my closet somewhat got rid of all my old winter stuff but I hate this laundry basket so much if you have a laundry basket that you really love please leave me recommendations that thing is a hand-me-down from a hand-me-down from a hand-me-down that I got from my ex-boyfriend I just feel like it’s time to upgrade that but it really does free up so much space in the closet when you get rid of all your winter stuff and it’s gonna be I think 90s in LA in the next few weeks oh oh it’s just feels so good it’s so happy I feel so accomplished to finish that and then I just showered in my skincare so if you’re interested in what I’m doing exactly for my am skincare routine you can check out the full video but I am trying something new that I’m really loving this a beauty counter vitamin C if you don’t have vitamin C it’s really really really good I just love the texture this is my first beauty counter product but I’m actually really impressed and this formulation is so good sorry by the way a native showering and listening to a podcast but that’s quarantine life and this is a vlog about quarantine life so I’m just sharing the real teeth and now I’m about to get ready right now Nate and I are saving for a house and we live in a neighborhood that is completely out of our price range so we’re looking at more up-and-coming neighborhoods and it’s just really really exciting and this is a neighborhood that we’re checking out today that we’ve never been to so we thought we would drive around and check it out and see if it’s even in the realm of possibility for a place that we’d want to live so I thought I would do a little makeup if you haven’t seen this bad boy I got love I’m just always testing brand new products and trying different things and this case came in handy and I will link everything below as per usual and watch a little YouTube probably this is the magical thing babe do you know how magical this is no I’m really recording this is you know I’ll test it on Nate and show you everyone is gonna love it husbands included just kidding but this is the new Westman Atelier highlight stick that I unboxed in the crazy $500 cradle Beauty unboxing and it is one of I think three products I’m definitely suggest you go out and buy I mean this is most beautiful highlight I’m obsessed with how easy it is to apply with this little stick and it blends so well to your other makeup foundation bronzer all the stuff and you can just do a few little open all the areas you want to highlight and it just gives you such a beautiful glow very effortless summer beach vibes love it love it love it now I want to try everything from Westman Atelier because it’s a brand new the line from Gucci West West men who is a celebrity makeup artist and hopefully I could try all of her stuff soon I emailed her so fingers crossed nice all right we out so crazy to have no traffic at noon Saturday at Los Angeles it I don’t know what day it is Saturday yeah I forgot it’s all blending together who knows what day it is anymore that was a fun a little reprieve from any stressors in your life I really think the name of the game right now is just moving forward distracting ourselves when we can because we don’t have a lot of control like I’ve said multiple times before so I hope you’re staying home staying safe staying connected you can connect with me on Instagram connect with your loved ones use FaceTime you zoom they really are all such important ways to connect right now but let’s get into your questions it’s just another way to connect to this wonderful community so the first question is favorite moisturizer recommendation for acne prone skin and if you are new to my channel just know that I have a really acne prone sensitive skin so a lot of the recommendations that I’m giving are for that specific skin type but most of the things I talked about will work for any skin types and less I say otherwise so my favorite moisturizer for acne prone skin is something that’s more of a hyaluronic acid base moisturizer you want to be cautious about oils if you are someone whose acne prone and I get a lot of questions about oils for acne prone skin but it really is so individual that you kind of have to test different products and see what works for you specifically I can do oils at this point because I’m using chemical exfoliants my diet is really supportive of acne but oils used to really break me up so if you are going to and oil on your skin just make sure that you’re using a really really high quality product that has an oil blend and not just a straight oil from say a grocery store even if it’s a health food store and it’s in the skincare section if it’s just 100 percent oil I don’t always think that’s the best because molecular Li it’s so big that it’s just gonna sit on the surface of your skin so my favorite moisturizers for acne prone skin are things like honest beauty hydrogel cream which is a lot of hyaluronic acid which is going to be really hydrating for oily skin oily acne prone skin second question how can I get rid of acne scarring this is such an important topic because if you are someone who suffer from acne not only do you have the breakouts that you have this scarring afterwards so my suggestions for how to clear acne scarring is threefold so number one prevention of scarring so that’s not picking and then also using SPF because no matter what if you get a zit you’re probably gonna have a little raising in the skin which is going to cause pigmentation if you pick it or scratch it or mess with it that’s gonna make it even more pigmented with the scarring so you really want to be careful not picking and then if you do pick even if you don’t use an SPF you want to make sure you protect that skin and avoid any contact with the Sun because the Sun is actually going to produce more scarring in that area then number two is using a treatment mask to help increase the speed of cell turnover speed up the sloughing off of dead skin so you can really regenerate a new tissue more quickly and get rid of that scarring I love a cherry enzyme peel I’ll put three of my favorite chemical exfoliant masks down below kind of in different intensity so something for more for really gentle skin all the way up to skin that’s a little bit more robust it can handle a deeper heal here’s a great one what do you do when you see a zit pop up on your face and because I have a zit right now this is the perfect topic I actually just made a tick talked about this so we’ll link it in the description below but my main strategy for one as it appears is doing an ice rollin practice so getting some of the inflammation out of it reducing the pain because a lot of times and you have that fin it’s painful and all you want to do is just touch it but your hands are oily so not only adds more bacteria but it can spread the acne bacteria and it is not a good look so what you’re gonna do is you’re gonna ice roll after you cleanse then you’re gonna stick on a hydrocolloid dressing or a zit sticker I have been loving visit sticker it took me a while to get on board but reason why I like is it stickers is it’s not only healing as a wound dressing but it prevents you from touching it it prevents you from getting your oils on it and I feel like it does slow down acne from you know becoming a whiteheads it or it helps you heal it so zit sticker the rest of your skin care you do that morning and night and it helps it go away and then you’re not tempted to pick it pop it things like that next question is what are your favorite body oils and I have been making my own nourishing body oil at home for I don’t even know I over a year now and I absolutely love it I love apricot seed oil because it’s not too sticky it absorbs into the skin it’s really really hydrating and nourishing and it’s pretty unscented so I can scent it with different essential oil blends that are great for skin and I have the recipe of that down below of course next question is tips for preventing blackheads and instead of doing things that are really harsh like trying to squeeze or extract them yourself so use one of those little loops that can be really damaging for your skin is to do a low and slow method of chemical exfoliation I mean I cannot sing the praises of chemical exfoliation enough and there are so many different products that can chemically exfoliate but I love to use a toner or maybe a serum that has some lactic acid or enzymes or something like that in there to slowly but surely over time cleanse your pores you’re not getting that build-up of blackheads I will also say that sometimes pores look bigger and they look like they’re clogged if they’re really dehydrated so making sure that you’re using products of hyaluronic acid and different things to hydrate the skin really give your pores a smaller and clearer appearance this is such a good one it’s not necessarily skincare related but I think it’s great to touch on how do you keep the confidence in yourself in this world of beautiful women smothering social media I really feel like being a social-media influencer or being someone I like to think of myself as an educator and not an influencer but it’s actually been very eye-opening for me because all of my peers are people who have social media presences a lot of my good friends have a lot of followers and meeting people who were in my line of work makes you realize that we are all human with our own insecurities and what people present online isn’t necessarily their life and I just really try to focus on the things that matter and make me unique and it isn’t my appearance I’m not a model I’m not the most beautiful woman in the world and that’s fine with me I have a beautiful family I am so proud of the knowledge I share with my community I have such positive friendships and I really try to think about those things and if I am finding myself getting really upset and worked up about competition that I’m seeing online it’s just a mental check in to like put the phone down go out into the world get a breath of fresh air and realize that this is not life your life is around you it’s of people who love you most and this is a wonderful tool but it doesn’t define you and it doesn’t define your Worth and it shouldn’t be what you’re aiming to to do and to be and to look like yes you are uniquely beautiful and no one can take that away from you so don’t let them oh I got another good one what are your top two tips for eliminating hormonal acne so what do you think about hormonal acne and you’re thinking about PMS C week before your period acne that’s usually too much estrogen so finding ways to prevent an overabundance of estrogen so doing something like a nice walk were you getting that lymphatic drainage in you’re helping your body release estrogen awesome making sure that your cortisol stays really low so that’s reducing the amount of caffeine you have in the morning that’s spiking cortisol and that’s incorporating some relaxing practices breath practice journal practice meditation practice something to lower the stress hormones so you’re not reacting in the form of acne on the surface of your skin those things help immensely and I don’t think they’re often as recognized when it comes to acne but just that movement and reducing cortisol are super helpful and important this is another one that isn’t quite skincare related but it is kind of interesting if you don’t know and I think it’s fun to share just as a little bit of inspiration for someone who’s trying to pursue a creative career sorry in advance if you’ve already answered this a million times but how did you make the transition from nursing to full-time content creator and how did you get your first grand deal so I worked as a aesthetic registered nurse for over seven years which means I did skincare and beauty treatments anywhere from laser hair removal – facial lasers – filler em both opps and I think about three years in I started to develop the true spoon which is my blog and I was just going through such a journey with my skin and learning how to heal it through diet and what I was eating and I was seeing such great results from it that I wanted to be able to share it with my friends and my family so I made a blog and just continued to post on there and started to incorporate holistic skin care practices and non-toxic product reviews and really it grew and evolved and I made an Instagram and started sharing things little by little but it was probably a four year process of me working in my nursing job less days working nights weekends any time off and developing my brand posting on my website making sure my social media was engaging interesting and educating so it was a lot of work it’s a labor of love and still to this day I am so incredibly blessed to do what I do and to be able to reach a lot more people and educate a lot more people and help them find skin competence and heal their skin that I was able to do in my nursing practice but it took a really long time and I’m still not where I want to be I have so much more to share and to give and to educate about but that was kind of my transition was low and slow and I didn’t just quit my job I kept my main money-making career until I could supplement and do what I do now full-time and how did I get my first brand deal I think it was just a DM someone deemed me and soon after I actually was deemed by a management company and I took on management not really really helped and I’m the kind of person who is all about the creative and all about connecting and the deals and pitching myself and wanting to sell things just wasn’t ever something that I was passionate about her interested in but you do realize that at a certain point to have a platform where you can educate full-time you do need to collaborate with really wonderful like-minded brands and I’ve been very very lucky to work with brands that I would be promoting anyways and that are willing to help support me in my journey to help educate as many women as I can and men there’s any guys watching last question for now what are your favorite skin foods so there are so many delicious skin boosting foods that I swear by an app all the time one is green tea I’m absolutely obsessed with matcha I drink it all the time it has amazing antioxidant profile and benefits for healthy skin longevity of skin I also love sweet potato it has air beta-carotene which is wonderful for skin and so protecting so any in any form so your tato fries sweet potato hers sweet potato chips you know mashed sweet potato soup – and smoothies I will take sweet potato any way I can get it it is one of my absolute favorite foods of all time then if we get into the fat category absolutely love avocado oil.
i cook with it I dress things with it olive oil all of those healthy fats are really protecting and nourishing for your skin and they help you maintain moisture in the skin so those ones are great and then into the dessert category I love cacao I love cacao nibs anything chocolate again has crazy antioxidant profiles which really help support skin and help fight free radical damage chocoholic rejoice I hope the answers to those questions were helpful I hope I may be touched on some questions that you had anyways and if you have any more questions you can always leave them in the comments below I just want to say that I’m thankful for you we just hit a thousand subscribers we because if we did it together it’s a team effort thank you for telling your friends and your family and for subscribing and being involved I mean I just started this channel so recently and to have all of your support means the world and I’m just going to continue to create videos and connect with you and show you more inside my world and I’ve just had so much fun with this medium and I can’t wait to see you next week you
