SKIN CARE | Dermatologist review on The Ordinary
hey guys dr. Davin Limbaugh to the five
laser dermatologist today we’ll be
talking about the much-awaited review on
P ordinary yes I’ve been using this for
the last couple of months and I’ll tell
you what I think of it look if you will
here’s the summary you must be an idiot
if you don’t try it because it is
unbelievable for what it’s worth
look that’s the summary okay it’s bang
for buck you’re not going to get
anything better than this for less than
the cost of these skin care products so
I’ve been using this over winter and
that’s basically a vitamin C suspension
30% in silicon and you may ask why do I
use vitamin C do I really believe in
vitamin C what does vitamin C do for
your skin well let’s go back to a few
things first of all I like to use this
because it is really occlusive in other
words for me with I guess dry skin
especially living in Australia with
lower humidity over the winter months
this – that me really well however with
the change of season here now we’re
coming into spring with the high
humidity I’m changing to this now both
of these in Australia I think they’re
about 9 or 10 dollars and I can give
these overseas for that eight dollars so
seriously even if you don’t like it if
it doesn’t suit your skin it’s only
eight dollars so that’s why I say with
the ordinary you cannot go wrong because
skincare is as individual Isis you are
so if there was one good product for the
best moisturizer moisturizer out there
there’ll be only one good product but
there are many because some people like
the feel of a more inclusive moisturizer
for example a dry skin where some people
like a lighter moisturizer for someone
who’s got greasy or oily skin so I can’t
advise on what to use for your skin but
it go out there and try it yourself now
let’s get back so always actually being
sidetracked in regards to the vitamin C
it’s a vitamin C in skin how important
is it well
he does two things really in this skin
number one it is actually vital for the
collagen and elastin right so these are
the scaffolding of your skin so remember
back in the old days the stories are
scurvy yeah and people used to get
bruising that’s because the blood
vessels are not supported by collagen
and as a result used to get bruising of
the skin so that’s the first one of the
first signs of scurvy but in order to
actually have scurvy now have I seen the
case yes that was probably about 20
years ago in my training but since then
no it doesn’t usually occur unless
someone’s really malnourished because
just having you’re eating a stable diet
with you know greens vegetables glass of
orange juice a week
you’ve got your vitamin C intake do you
take if you take more supplements as in
vitamin C supplementation I think it’s
just going to be excreted and it’s just
a waste okay so if you live if you have
well bad on its diet it’s absolutely
fine so let’s get back to this it is
actually a vitamin C suspension 30% and
believe it or not it is in in the
ingredients in the back pure l-ascorbic
acid which gives you the highest
bioavailability of vitamin C for your
skin so I don’t know how they do it for
this price because a serums norm it’s
usually about between 7 to 10 times more
than the purchase price of this which
like I said this somewhere between 8 to
anyway up to fourteen fifteen dollars
which is really nothing in the scheme of
skincare so what do these do for your
skin what despondency do for your skin
it acts as a free radical scavengers so
free radicals occur because of UV damage
or pollution and what happens is that
free radicals can damage DNA which in
turn can lead to cellular damage and in
the worst case scenario predispose you
to skin cancer so I’m not saying take
this
in cancer free it’s just the theory and
they’re not many robust studies which
actually show that vitamin C is you know
reverses skin aging and it’s certainly
the no studies they’re saying vitamin C
reduces the rate of malignancy so this
is all in theory here’s my argument why
do you want to scavenge free radicals
when you can prevent free radicals in
the first place so it’s you know people
say I should I use the abundancy in the
morning and the answer is yes because
most of the free radical damage you’ll
get would be during the day because of
the UV explosion the pollutants the flip
side is if you’re going to use something
why do you want to actually reduce free
radicals what you want to do is prevent
three radicals and the best way to
prevent that is sun protection so
wearing sunscreen and the hat prevents
free radicals in the first place so
that’s my argument is that look I love
all the vitamins I probably would write
this as you may nonessential
I’ll kind of I’m an a by far the studies
out there
it’s robust and vitamin A first then B
because vitamin B has also been shown to
be effective niacinamide
but as an anti-inflammatory but also
decreases the right of neoplasia or
displays here in other words SILS which
may predispose to skin cancer
environments is right at the bottom so
it goes like this I mean a first phone
would be second and vitamin C if you’re
really born there nothing to do sure
and look I didn’t buy this because the
vitamin C I bought it because I really
like the texture of it and the vitamin C
was just an added bonus
and it’s in silicon so people have asked
me I’ve just kind of go a couple
comments on YouTube in regards to what
are my thoughts on silica it’s fine
because sitting on your skin it’s not
actually sitting under your skin we’re
not using silicon droplets
nor we injecting there okay so it’s
absolutely fine and the only reason why
boil up is because
it suits me really well now like I said
change of season now I’m using this
which is natural moisturizing factors in
H a so AJ is hyaluronic acid guys and
once again do I actually buy because of
the a chase the answer’s no I bite
because it feels nice it feels nice it’s
light it’s non greasy and my skin
doesn’t get irritated with it so that’s
my moisturizer of choice okay so you
can’t go wrong with the ordinary because
even though they have a lot of
pseudoscience because highlight acid
remember balanced under your skin not
sitting on your skin yes can make it can
make for a really good moisturizer but
AJ’s if they go under your skin can
really plump up your skin reduce
wrinkles and certainly help you from
there but like I said it’s a lot of
pseudoscience with the ordinary and I’ll
give you another example for example
they make something like this which is
in emulsion of a retinoid 2% and like I
said is cheapest chips you’re paying
probably 8 to 10 dollars for this and
why is this super cheap compared to
things like environ or Medicaid or any
of those high-end creams or even lemare
the thing is I guess the ordinary
realizes that skin care doesn’t really
change your skin so you don’t actually
put this and next thing you know you
have less wrinkles or less pigmentation
it doesn’t happen that way not with this
kind of formulation so the science is
that it’s pseudoscience to using a
retinoid remember a retinoid needs to
have a conversion so that actually gets
absorbed by your skin for the RAI
receptors known as retinal receptors to
work so the bioavailability in other
words how much it actually gets into
your skin is unknown compared to let’s
say
using a retina would just prescribe like
trick knowing so the site is there for
this I haven’t tried it myself but I’m
going to try though the run and I bought
myself nice in the might as well which
is basically Bowman B and zinc zinc is
great for you immune system so if you’re
having acne for example and vitamin b3
is also good as an anti-inflammatory so
for example patients who suffer from
rosacea or acne any of the inflammatory
skin conditions may benefit from this
I’m doing this segment right now on
Instagram so if you’re not on Instagram
on my Instagram says doctor davon limb
that’s the doctor dappin lymph down here
I’m doing a signal skin lab which means
every week I test a product so I can’t
be using this on my face all the time
every night because that will cause skin
irritation and the way I test things is
a I guess it’s an objective as well as a
subjective point of view objective means
I read the ingredients I tell you the
science behind it but subjectively is
how I feel with my skin type using these
products
so in summary it’s this if you haven’t
tried the ordinary just by yourself a
couple you can’t go wrong
skincare remember like I said it does
not reverse anything it basically
prevents okay so you don’t spend your
money on expensive you know violent ABCs
cleansers toners serums night gels idols
eye cream it’s not gonna make a
difference guys what’s gonna make the
biggest difference remember you know I
gave I was interviewed just a few weeks
ago in Beverly Hills and I asked me you
know dr. Lin what’s your skincare tips
three tips and I go yes for sunscreen
the morning sunscreen in the afternoon
and a retinoid at night and that’s it
one two three nothing else no you know
whatever growth factors or what-have-you
keep it simple and the most important
thing is actually prevent college and
damage in the first place so using the
sunscreen of your choice know it for the
tenth time I’m not sponsored by La Roche
Posay I actually like in theory us
because I do like the sunscreen itself
which means I’m going to use it and it
offers high UV protection
so once again it’s up to you just as
long as you get your sunscreen on you
twice a day that’s fine
and like I said try to get something
with long-wave UVA protection so
something with zinc oxide titanium
dioxide or Merkel Excel which is
basically produced by La Roche Posay
even old fashion ingredients like a
vogue benzene for example which have
been with this for well over 30 years
provide better UVA protection than most
sunscreens in those sunscreens our
cheapest chips to summarize if you
haven’t tried this product coming out up
there just buy a couple of these it’s
not going to break the bank and in the
worst case scenario if you don’t like it
it’s not suited to your skin type give
it to your brother sister mother father
or friend okay guys so that’s my summary
on the D ordinary okay it’s it’s really
is a bang for buck you just I just don’t
know how to describe it Mandy you just
cannot get better than that we get a lot
of three products we trialed everything
basically a pharmacist gives us trials
of just about every single cream out
there whether it be a retinoid alpha
hydroxy acids be the hydroxy acids maybe
we get it and I can tell you this for a
fact that you ordinary for how much it
costs man you’re a fool if you if you
don’t try it so guys I hope you liked
that video it’s just a short summary on
skincare my thoughts on vitamin C once
again some people may have different
opinions charlie thoughts below because
it’s an interactive channel guys thanks
