NMN vs NR | What’s the BEST Anti-Aging Supplement in 2020?

what’s up everyone today we’ll go through whether any men or nr may actually stop aging we’ll see what the research says about other strategies that work together with any men or nr and then we’ll figure out which one is best and if you like this video please do smash that thumbs up button it really does help with the youtube algorithm now let’s crack on so to figure out how enemies and nr actually work we need to go through what nad plus is so nad it’s a vital metabolic enzyme that’s found in cells and is necessary for over 500 enzyme reactions it plays a crucial role in various biological processes including metabolism aging cell death dna repair and gene expression so nad it’s vital for our cells to function correctly and to make sure that we’re repairing our dna the trouble is though as we age our levels of nad go further and further down this means that our enzymes they don’t have the fuel that they need for their activation and some of those key enzymes they’re called saturns and parps so without youthful levels of nad we’re not going to be activating astitumans and our parts as much as what we were when we were young so we’re not going to be repairing our dna we’re not going to be lengthening the telomeres at the ends of our chromosomes and our mitochondria which are the powerhouses of our cells they’re not going to be as efficient as what they could be so it’s efficiency of nad it’s closely associated with type 2 diabetes obesity heart failure alzheimer’s disease and cerebral ischemia and this decline in multiple organs with age it contributes to the development of various age-related diseases so let’s fix this problem if nad plus is going down let’s just bring it back up well there is a problem with this theory in a d plus it’s a large and bulky molecule so our bodies will struggle to absorb it in a supplement and that’s where nr or any men come into it but before we get on to that there are some other strategies that we can go through to make sure that our nad is high is youthful so in a nutshell there are three different strategies that we can use to make sure that our nad is healthy so we can stop certain enzymes from using nad we can recycle our nad better and then we can replace that nad so let’s start with some enzymes that are needlessly burning through our nad stores so there’s an enzyme called cd38 and cd38 it increases with aging and it’s required for the age-related nad decline and mitochondrial dysfunction and cd38 it actually increases two to three times during aging and all tissues tested so as we age cd38 activation it’s going up it’s uncontrolled and cd38 when it’s activated too much it reduces how efficient our mitochondria are we want to stop cd38 from using all of the nad taking away the nad from our situations and our parts this is not what we want but luckily there is a strategy that we know of to reduce our cd38 levels and make sure that our nad plus levels are healthy so there’s a molecule called epigenin and it’s found in significant amounts in vegetables and recently it was found that cd38 is stopped by flavonoids particularly epigenin so a pigeon in treatment it increased nad plus levels in all cells in a dose-dependent manner so when researchers gave mice epigenin it decreased cd38 levels by around 66 percent and it doubled the nad plus levels and we can get epigenin from foods that we eat so dried parsley has a particularly high level of epigenin that far exceeds any other vegetables or herbs but it’s also found in reasonable quantities in chamomile tea now we could be tempted just to get the apigenin from a supplement but there is a problem with this pure epigenin is generally regarded as unstable so it can be a bit difficult to find a high quality a pigeon in supplement but overall that is one strategy to make sure that our nad plus levels are good they’re healthy we can reduce our cd38 and make sure that the nad is being used up by enzymes that we actually want to activate our saturns and our parts so let’s move on to the second strategy we can recycle our nad plus more efficiently so when our nad is used up by our saturn’s pops and cd38 it creates a molecule called nicotinamide and nicotinamide is converted into nmn within our cells by an enzyme called nampt and in skeletal muscle nad it’s mainly generated from this pathway unfortunately though it’s the nam pt enzyme that’s rate limiting it’s a roadblock and in ampt it decreases with age in humans collector muscle so as we age our cells struggle to recycle that nad plus but luckily we do have some strategies that we can use to boost our nampt we’ve got ways to make sure that this recycling process happens efficiently so aerobic exercise training increased in ampt and resistance exercise also increases in ampt and actually it may increase in ampt more than aerobic exercise we can calorie restrict ourselves so in ampt in skeletal muscle of calorie-restricted rats was four-fold higher and we can use resveratrol and even with all of those other strategies that we can use there are nampt activators that researchers are currently using and they are a pioneering approach to raise our nad plus levels and that brings us onto the last strategy to boost nad we can refuel it so there are a couple of different pathways that we can use to refuel nad we can take tryptophan but tryptophan has to go through a lot of different conversions to create nad so that one isn’t great we can use nicotinic acid or niacin and nicotinic acid it has been shown to raise in a d d-plus in rodents but one of the really exciting things is that we’ve got human data showing that we can use niacin to boost nad so niacin supplementation increased muscle nad by 1.

3 times after four months and 2.3 times after 10 months and while that’s awesome news there are a couple of drawbacks with using niacin so in rodents nr and nmn appear to raise nad plus to greater levels than just niacin or nicotinic acid and the sustained release form of niacin is hepatotoxic or liver toxic and should be restricted from use so if you are considering niacin it’s the instant release niacin that’s preferred but then if we’re using instant release niacin there’s the so-called niacin flush and it’s caused by the dilation of blood vessels so individuals may experience skin warmth reddening and itching at various degrees of severity so niacin is not a perfect molecule either so what about nicotinamide so like we went through earlier the nad when it’s used up by our saturns and our parts it creates nicotinamide but we can get nicotinamide from our diet but there has been some controversy when using mechatinamide so overall we want to be activating our saturns and our parts but until very recently nicotinamide has been used as a saturn inhibitor now this point it is controversial there are several studies that have demonstrated that nicotinamide treatment it causes the tumor activation but what seems to be happening is that nicotinamide treatment does stop saturn activation when examined after one hour of treatment but after one hour of treatment where that nicotinamide has been converted into nmn then there is an increase in saturn activation but still this is a problem the whole idea with boosting our nad levels is to make sure that our saturn’s and our parts can be activated so even for that first hour with nicotinamide if we’re stopping altitude and activation that’s the last thing that we want so once again nicotinamide is not a perfect molecule and that brings us to nmn and nr so orally administered nmn it quickly creates nad in tissues and remarkably nmn effectively mitigates or stops the age-associated physiological decline in mice so it’s for that reason that researchers get so excited about nmn and since it’s of the same pathway the same applies to nr so coming back once again to this diagram we can get nr from our diet and then that nr is converted within our cells to nmn so for a long time it was thought that the best way to boost our nad was to take nr but then some more research came along a recent study identified a specific transporter of nmn and this transporter can get their nmn into our cells they also found that this transporter is highly expressed in the small intestine and as we age there’s more and more of this transporter in the small intestine as a response to the decreased nad so instead of the nmn having to be converted into nr be absorbed by the cell and then converted back into enemy with this transporter we can directly get the nmn into our cells where it can boost the nad but just as we think we’re making progress there’s a massive roadblock in a response to that discovery of the so-called enemy transporter another group of researchers responded by saying the analytical methods data and interpretation are not sound and do not support the discovery of this nmn transporter to which the original researchers replied their claim of an absence of evidence has no concrete foundation and the data in our article strongly supports the conclusion that this transporter is an enemy transporter so there’s a lot of tit-for-tat in the scientific community around this enemy transporter and i just wanted to bring this to your attention because we don’t have all of the answers yet so what data do we have right now to figure out which one is best out of any men and nr well in some mice trials any men did improve cardiac function in a dose-dependent manner whereas nr did not so in mice it does appear that any men may be better than nr but once again there’s another problem it’s difficult to compare nmn with nr because both are subjected to first pass metabolism and quick conversion to other nad plus intermediates before uptake so what this is saying is that before nr or nmn can actually get into our bloodstream it’s converted into another molecule it’s converted into nicotinamide so a group of researchers employed versions of nr and any men that were isotopically labeled to distinguish nad made directly from nr or nmn what they found is that both nr and any men were quickly degraded into nicotinamide in whole blood so this finding that nr and any men is first converted into nicotinamide and then converted back into nr and any men this doesn’t really make sense with some of the other data that we’ve got so remember we’ve got data showing that any men helps in the health of rat hearts but nr doesn’t seem to do this but this doesn’t make sense because if both nr and any men are converted into nicotinamide then they should both have the same effect but this isn’t what we find in the data so overall with the data that we’ve gone through so far we don’t know which one is best out of any men and nr so let’s have a look at the human trials and once again another issue comes up the only human trial of any men that we’ve got is a single oral administration of any men and it was found to be safe and effectively metabolized in healthy men that’s it that’s all we’ve got for the human data of nmn luckily we do have a bit more for nr so we do have a six-week randomized double-blind placebo-controlled crossover clinical trial of nr and they gave 500 milligrams of nr twice a day they found that oral in our supplementation effectively elevates levels of nad by around 60 compared to placebo so bringing that all together which one is better out of nmn and nr well there’s so many unknowns we don’t exactly know how any men gets into the cells we think we do but we need more research around that transporter we don’t know whether the nr and any men is first converted into nicotinamide in our bodies and then converted back into nr and nmn and we don’t have enough human data to go on so right now there’s far more human data around nr but in the mice trials it does look like any men would be better than nr what we do know is that a lower dosage of any men could be more effective and safer for example the brain may be more sensitive to the concentration of nmn a lower dose administration of any men resulted in improved female infertility with enhanced egg quality whereas an overdose of any men may have some adverse effects on aspects of fertility so we don’t know for one hundred percent certainty which one is better out of nr or any men what we do know is that we are at the bleeding edge of the anti-aging revolution we need to tread with a lot of caution so for me personally i er on a lower dose the maximum dose that i would consider taking of any men is one gram every day and i certainly wouldn’t do more than that until we’ve got more data we also need to keep in our minds two other really important issues so the first one is methylation so very briefly methylation it’s a vital process in our bodies and make sure that we’re producing neurotransmitters antioxidants that we’re switching on the correct parts of our dna but when we boost our nad levels it can get in the way of this methylation process so to stop this from happening i take a molecule that’s called a methyl donut what it does is that it donates methyl groups and the molecule that i take is tmg or trimethylglycine and the last big concern with taking molecules that boost nad is its link with cancer now very recently i did do a video on this where boosting nad may actually accelerate cancer growth in a nutshell before we get cancer nad plus boosters they may actually prevent us from getting cancer but if we do have established cancer and we’re boosting our nad it may accelerate that existing cancer growth so please let me know in the comment section what you thought of this video and what you’re going to do about any men nr and niacin are you going to take any of those molecules or are you going to wait for more data and if you did like this video please do smash that thumbs up button it really does help with the youtube algorithm and a massive thank you to all of the patrons supporting the channel and until next time thanks very much
