My Perfect Skincare Routine for Dry Acne Prone Skin + Q&A ✨
well hey there guys it’s been a hot minute since i’ve popped on in and had a little chit chat with you guys about me skin that rhymed and it was on purpose i just haven’t done a really in-depth skincare chat in a while and i figured it would be kind of fun especially since i’m sort of past my year mark of the last time i was on accutane it’s been great i have had very little trouble maintaining my skin as of late which has been super awesome i tend to get a lot of questions on my photos or my stories on my instagram asking me what my current routine is if i’m doing anything different with my skin so i figured why not just pop all my stories and ask you guys to ask me some questions also a huge thank you to one of my favorite skincare brands of all time for sponsoring this video a cerave i um they are the number one even when i was on full accutane crazy face i was using cerave products i was using the am facial moisturizing lotion every time i would go run this was like my go-to sunscreen i still use it to this day and i’ve had a great time maintaining my skin with a lot of their acne specific products so i will chat about those in a second just to give you guys an idea of what my current skincare routine looks like i am really bad really bad about remembering my skincare routine i am not one of those people that’s very good about it because i’m also one of those people that does not wear foundation very often like right now i’m wearing a little bit but for the most part i pretty much go makeup free other than like mascara or eyeliner or maybe some bronzer to like brighten my face up a little bit i just i’ve been able to maintain acne free skin for so long that i finally got my dream of really just not having to think about it in the morning and sort of roll out of bed and get on with my day but the problem with that is is that your skin still needs nice care it needs skin care i needed to make sure to still do that tlc in the morning and the eve so that i’m not you know neglecting me skin so in the morning time usually what i’ll do is kind of splash my face with water and then if i have any like little bits of makeup or anything like that on my eyes kind of like left over or like little raccoon eyes that i would have gotten from my mascara i’ll use like a little makeup remover solution or a toner just to kind of like wipe off that under eye and then i’ll go in with the facial moisturizing lotion and just throw that on so i have my spf and then do my makeup go about my day super simple i try not to over complicate things so at night my first step is to take off all my makeup so i’ll make sure to use a gentle cream cleanser just to strip everything off and make sure that i’m starting with a clean base and then i like to double cleanse if i’ve been wearing makeup at night i’ll use the acne foaming cream cleanser that has benzoyl peroxide in it which is great for acne treatment which also has ceramides hyaluronic acid and niacinamide in it so it’s really moisturizing as well and good for your skin barrier it doesn’t dry out my skin which is just miraculous because usually if i see foaming on a cleanser i’m like my skin’s gonna be dry but no this thing keeps you hydrated and lovely while also having powerful ingredients to fight acne which is awesome and afterwards i put on a very thin layer of the resurfacing retinol serum so that like it doesn’t go too too crazy the main areas of my face where i notice a really big difference with this is my forehead i get like a little bit of texture on my forehead just because i have bangs and i use hair products a lot i have like finishing creams with fragrance in them and stuff like that so i try to treat my forehead extra special and then also i noticed a lot of change around the sides of my nose because that’s where i tend to not exfoliate the best or have build up of like sebum or dead skin cells and i feel like this actually really knocks that out and gives me like super clean pores around my nose which i really really like i’ll do that and then to lock it all in baby you got your moisturizer so facial moisturizing lotion pm incredible texture so smooth on the skin and it’s not gloopy or sticky or anything like that it dries down super quickly but still feels really moisturizing and it’s just a lovely thing to have um so i’ll put that on and then go to bed wake up fresh face and feeling beautiful i am pretty obsessed with oils as well so if i’m having an extra dry day i’ll put an oil down first and then my sunscreen then my makeup and i’ll do sort of the same thing but flipped for night time as well where i’ll like cleanse make sure i put on my oil and then put on my moisturizer on top if i’m having an extra dry day which sometimes happens so that’s the basic skincare routine now let’s get into some questions first and foremost do you feel your good skin have an impact on your mental health because i’m struggling a bit i remember talking on youtube about how i felt like i was spending a lot of my brain power thinking about my skin thinking about what it was going to be like the next day thinking about the products i had used the past week thinking about like when my period was coming up so when i was gonna get hormonal breakouts and what that meant for me if i could go out that day just nonsense that bordered on obsessive and it was not good for my obsessive personality disorders that i already have um and i didn’t need that added problem of picking and obsessing over my skin so definitely definitely definitely it has lessened the bad days the bad days that i wake up and i just like can’t handle things were were usually the days that my skin was really really bad i mean that’s why i fought for so long to have acne free skin and that doesn’t mean that you can’t be beautiful with acne it’s not to say that it’s more that just it was one of those things that i felt like i was constantly maintaining and in my own life i couldn’t put forth any more effort towards that what foods do you avoid to prevent breakouts frenchie loves toast i also love toast aka i love all kinds of carbs but i do find that one of the worst carbs for my skin is sugar my body is just it doesn’t like sugar my stomach hurts when i eat sugar my teeth hurts when i eat sugar i have i don’t really like sweets that much like okay don’t miss me with that sticky toffee pudding i will absolutely go head first into that but i don’t know i just like i’d rather eat a salty pretzel from annie anne’s you know what i mean i’m that kind of lady it’s easy to avoid sugar but also like it’s hidden in so many things so i think i’m a bit more careful about my sugar consumption when it comes to my skin for sure another one is alcohol since i had my like harsher acne treatment i have noticed such an impact when it comes to alcohol on my skin like i need to be drinking water pretty much one to one ratio when it comes to like a drink so if i have a cocktail i need to have a glass of water with the cocktail i’m having or the next day my skin is wrecked baby it ain’t it ain’t cute it’s like night of the living dead someone asked me do you still treat your skin like it’s acne prone and you break out after using certain products i’ve realized my skin has been always kind of the same like the texture has always been the same but i’ve always treated it differently so when i had really bad hormonal acne i still had really sensitized sensitive skin underneath all of that acne that would you know prickle up or get textured at fragrance or if i was using a treatment that was a little too harsh right off the bat it would sort of get a little bit of texture and it would make my acne worse but also there would be this secondary layer of like texture and i never really understood that to be a negative thing because i was dealing with the first and foremost problem which was like an insane amount of hormonal acne on my chin uh so it was never really my first problem you know what i mean but now that the acne like the active cystic acne is gone that texture is what i notice if i use a product that’s maybe a little bit too harsh for my skin or whatever i still treat my skin like it’s acne prone in a lot of ways but not to the degree of obsessiveness that i used to like i said i sometimes have a hard time remembering to do my skincare because i feel like my skin’s good so why do i need to do it you know what i mean but it’s that like self-care and that love for my skin for putting up with me and going through everything with me all the time and putting up with accutane and all of the acne treatments i put it on the antibiotics everything like i gotta give my skin something back you know jade asked me what breaking out looks like for me now and i would say that a it’s texture like i said so if that’s on my forehead i’ll get these little sort of like bumps little red bumps or textured bumps all over my forehead if i’ve used a hair product too quickly out of the shower that touches my forehead um or if i use like a makeup brush that i haven’t washed in a while i’ll notice that texture on my cheeks if i’m like putting on bronzer because i’m really bad about washing my bronzer brush um i’m like that doesn’t count right it’s like not foundation so it doesn’t count like yes it does why do i think that doesn’t count so i’ll notice that kind of thing but a breakout like i’m not kidding when i say i have had one one actual pimple one actual popped the pimple pimple since i’ve been on accutane over a year ago one one so stupid so that breakout was because i ate really greasy food and then didn’t wipe my mouth properly and then i went to bed that night i like brushed my teeth but i didn’t like clean my skin and i woke up the next day with literal pizza face like i’m pretty sure it was dominoes no papa john’s those papa john’s stuffed crust that’s what got me that’s what did it um and that was the breakout was just one irritated red bump it didn’t hang around i popped it and it said sayonara and left the next day so that’s what breakouts look like to me now which is crazy i cannot believe i’m able to say that tips on acne scars would be chef’s kiss acne scars are the most stubborn things oils baby oils it feels so counter-intuitive it feels so counter-intuitive oils and
