MORE INFLUENCER SKINCARE I WOULDN’T USE…PT 2
[Music]
hey guys welcome back it’s Erin today we
have a pink setup because I made a post
on YouTube and asked you guys which one
you guys prefer and pink one by a
longshot so so this is what we’re
working with now today I want to talk
about a couple more influence or
skincare products that I wouldn’t use
and buy influence or skincare products I
mean skincare products that are really
hyped up by influencer marketing and
just everybody talked about without
questioning it I’m not a dermatologist I
should just get a t-shirt that says not
a dermatologist merch coming soon but I
am a very passionate consumer of
skincare and I always look at ingredient
lists before purchasing so I haven’t
thing or two to talk about if you want
to see the first video where I talked
about brands like Kylie skin or Mario
Badescu you can click it right here
today I got four more products for you
and three of them are actually chemical
exfoliants which all of you know I’m a
huge fan of but I just think these three
missed a mark and they’re actually very
popular so yeah let’s jump right in
so the first product is bio oil you’ve
probably already heard of it it’s so
popular you can see it at so many
drugstores and you wouldn’t think a part
like that would be problematic for you
because it’s I don’t know maybe it’s the
word bio maybe is the fact that
packaging is so minimal that it looks
clinical almost that I bought it myself
before I realized that you can read
ingredient lists and the marketing uses
for like scars stretch marks which by
the way not really any topical treatment
is going to help with deep old stretch
marks I have them myself
and you can kind of help the appearance
of it with topical like moisturizers but
it’s not really something that can be
fixed on the surface that’s another
video what bio oil essentially is it’s
just mineral oil with a bunch of
fragrance oils like lavender oil
rosemary oil fragrance dye which is why
it has that 10 and lavender oil is
pretty high up the list and what I find
worrying is that because it’s marketed
as kind of like a scar healing product
like you see so many people talk about
it as a product to use if you’re trying
to heal acne scars and lavender oil it’s
the last thing you should be putting on
your skin if you’re trying to kill acne
scars it’s gonna cause more inflammation
more irritation
it’s gonna prolong the healing process
and lavender oil has a fragrant
component called this I can’t pronounce
it but this component of lavender oil
has actually been shown to be cytotoxic
meaning that it can cause skin cell
death if you apply it topically I’ll
link the source in the description so
it’s really bad news for its
purpose so if you really like the
texture and bio-oil
I would suggest just going to straight
mineral oil I like to go to like the
baby skincare aisle and look for a
fragrance free mineral oil but yeah
that’s something you can consider if
you’re looking to replace bio oil next
up we have three different types of
chemical exfoliants this one it’s so
popular I see this in everybody’s skin
care routine this is the Pixies skin
glow tonic and you know what I love the
brand I love their makeup I really like
that it’s kind of a drugstore brand by
the caters to people who like more
natural and very cute and I’m also glad
that more and more drugstore brands are
trying to push more chemical exfoliants
just the fact that glycolic acid is
becoming more more popular and more
easily available is good news but I
don’t think this specifically is a good
choice because it contains witch hazel
and I’ve already talked about my
feelings about it in other videos but
witch hazel contains alcohol tannins
both are very sensitizing it’s also a
fragrant ingredient especially since
this witch hazel ingredient is in an
exfoliant it’s gonna make it even more
sensitizing because it’s on freshly
exfoliated skin
there’s also fragrance in this formula
so some types of skin might not have a
reaction to this at all in the beginning
but it’s still gonna cost wear to your
skin over time and there are more
alternatives now for fragrance free and
affordable glycolic acid I know any list
has one so I would really avoid this
product if you’re looking for a chemical
exfoliant another thing about this is I
see a lot of people use this glow tonic
as a way of reducing acne breakouts and
why colic acid to an extent can help
with that but glycolic acid is more for
skin texture I think a better chemical X
willing to use if you’re trying to
reduce acne would be Beach a or
salicylic acid so yeah not the best next
up I’m about to get myself kicked off
this PE our list
Huna Beauty now has a skincare line and
I like someone who to beauty’s products
and they’ve sent me a couple of their
products that unfortunately never ended
up on my skin because I read the
ingredient list one of the most popular
launches by wishful skin is the yo glow
enzyme scrub I think that’s their first
products and in this scrub there is a
high amount of denatured alcohol which
compromises your skin barrier there’s
rose extract which is fragrance orange
extract lemon extract Magnolia extra
it’s like a fruit basket of fragrances
that are not supposed to be anywhere
near your skin especially if freshly
exfoliated skin so the fact that it’s a
scrub so there’s physical exfoliation
and it has lactic acid salicylic acid a
bunch of acids to chemically exfoliate
that skin and that’s just free real
estate for all these fragrances and it’s
going to cause a sensitizing reaction I
find it a bit disappointing because your
brand is kind of about minimalist clean
result-oriented
skincare and I don’t see any of that in
their formulation I’m sure I’m gonna get
kicked off the PR list but I really wish
more brands would put more effort into
product development than just influencer
marketing the last product is something
that I’ve actually used a lot as a
teenager
it’s the Clinique clarifying lotion I
feel like most of y’all are too young to
remember this but when YouTube first
started that was in everybody’s skin
care routine and I think it’s still
selling pretty well lanique is actually
one of my favorite brands I think they
have a lot of really good skin care
products but for some reason this
clarifying lotion which i think is
probably one of the worst products
they’ve ever had is the most popular the
reason why I would skip this product is
because it’s mostly alcohol and alcohol
is their second ingredient very high
concentration it also has salicylic acid
which is good but it also has witch
hazel the witch hazel and alcohol in
this lotion is actually pretty high same
reason why I’m not a fan of the pixie
skin glow tonic but the witch hazel and
alcohols an even higher concentration I
used to love this as a teenager because
I always had acne breakouts and I’m
always like around with my acne
when something pops I don’t know what to
put on top of it so I would just put
this lotion on top and it would drive
the pimple so I was like perfect great
exactly what I want but if you put
rubbing alcohol onto your pimple is
probably going to do the exact same
thing and the reason is because rubbing
alcohol dries up your skin yes it kills
the bacteria but it also is killing your
skin cells it’s so bad for long-term
skin health it’s gonna cause more
scarring than necessary and it’s gonna
damage your skin barrier if you’re
looking for an alternative to something
that does something similar polish or
salicylic acid I mean we all know I was
going to say that I would recommend the
one from the clear line because that’s
even better at reducing redness so yeah
if there are any brands or any products
that I haven’t talked about yet just let
me know I read all your comments I hope
this video was helpful and I’ll see you
next time bye
