@Dr Dray’s Skincare Routine: My Reaction & Thoughts | #SKINCARE
hi everyone welcome back i have another skincare reaction video for you today and this one’s a little bit different because i’m reacting to dr dre she’s a dermatologist here on youtube if you don’t follow her and she has her dermatologist skincare routine am and pm and we are going to take a look at it and i know i know what some people are already thinking susan is reacting to a dermatologist what makes her qualified to do this i think this is an important time to remind you guys that just because it’s a reaction video doesn’t mean that it’s a negative video and it doesn’t mean that i’m criticizing her at all she’s gotten her education in this she has practiced as a dermatologist a board-certified dermatologist and as a microbiologist i think so i realize that i don’t have the same qualifications that she does in skin care but what i do think is important is that these videos are not just entertaining but they create conversation and so i i think sometimes people forget that i have sometimes a different following than some of the people that i’m reacting to so sharing this video on my channel gives people one the opportunity to see what a dermatologist might be recommending but also they might discover dr dre so there are two things that are happening here and i think it’s always great to have conversation whether you’re looking at it what a doctor has to say whether you’re looking at what an esthetician has to say whether you’re looking at what an influencer or a celebrity has to say there is always a good conversation that can come from this so that is something i want to remind you guys about this video one of the things that i really like about dr dre is i feel like she has done such a good job of reminding people that affordable drugstore products are effective products you don’t have to get fancy with it you don’t have to spend a lot of money you don’t have to actually get really elaborate with your skincare routine and i really love that this is her personal philosophy i feel like she’s very consistent about what she says and what she recommends for people and she really has provided access to her to a dermatologist and she breaks down a lot of ingredients and a lot of the information that we’re getting out there so it’s really nice to have her perspective i always recommend getting more than one perspective especially when it comes to your online resources and everything because at the end of the day skincare is very personal and it’s very important to take all of this information and figure out how it relates to you so with all of that said let’s get into this video because it is a little bit longer since it’s an am and pm routine her video is a sponsor video so i’m just going to cut out her little disclosure part and hop to the skincare routine getting into my skincare routine i’m going to share with you starting out the pm routine first because that is kind of the more involved part of my skincare routine i take my shower at night time and before i step into the shower i like to start cleansing my face i do a double cleanse which means i start with an oil cleanser first and then follow it up with a gentle cleanser i like doing this approach because using an oil cleanser or an oil-based cleansing product whether it be an oil or a cleansing balm which tends to just be an oil in a solid form this helps to disrupt the film of cosmetics on the surface of the skin as well as break up the film of water resistant sunscreen while i am not a makeup wearer i do wear mascara which you’ll see later i do wear sunscreen and water resistant sunscreens and i reapply sunscreen throughout the day and so i like to use an oil cleanser to break all of that up doing this helps minimize the disruption to the skin barrier with cleansing people often will gravitate towards like a makeup wipe or a makeup remover solution a micellar water or just a plain cleanser to remove cosmetics and you end up having to rub quite a bit to break up that film going straight to an oil method is better because it hones in on the principle of like dissolves like and that using an oil is going to break up the oily components of your cosmetics in that film all right before we get into which product she’s going to use for her first cleanse i have to say i appreciate so much that dr dre does a double cleanse i work with dermatologists all the time talk with dermatologists all the time and i don’t know too many dermatologists that put too much stock into you know the double cleanse they’re all about cleansing don’t get me wrong i don’t hear too many dermatologists really praise the double cleanse and say that they do a double cleanse themselves and if they do a lot of them do start with something like micellar water so i love that dr dre is all about a double cleanse and i love that she points out that she uses it because she loves sunscreen if you are wearing sunscreen you want something that’s gonna break it down but not have to rub your skin too much or break down your skin barrier and i love that she points that out using an oil cleanser is just it’s just such an easy gentle way to break everything down on your face whether that’s makeup or sunscreen or just the grime from the day an oil cleanse as your first cleanse or an oil-based cleanse as far as like a bomb or something it’s just it’s my favorite way and i love love that she does this that’s what i do and recommend and there’s even a paper that shows that that is actually one of the better ways to remove water resistant sunscreen before i even get into the shower i take the oil into my palm and spread it across my face over my eyelashes people get really fixated on what the best cleansing oil or cleansing balm is and i actually want to stop there i say that she’s going to use something that’s interesting as her first cleanse i really love that she’s pointing out that she likes to shower at night and she does this before she gets into the shower when it comes to your oil-based cleanser you don’t want to get it wet first you want to start on dry skin so i really appreciate that she’s pointing out that she does this outside of the shower i actually do it in the shower but i think i’m really skilled i feel very skilled this is like something i have gotten down i do shower a lot at night and this is it’s mostly just because it works into my routine that way because i have kids and every it’s it’s when i get some free time and i will do a double cleanse in my shower but i’ve got this like i’ve got it down where i don’t get my face wet yet and i work my first cleansing so i really like that she’s gonna that she’s pointing out that she’s gonna start with dry skin before she’s gonna get into the shower so this is really interesting and and it really makes a focus on that really honestly it doesn’t matter you’re gonna wash it off anyway i have been using for several several months now the neutrogena body oil fragrance free and you may be going oh my gosh it’s a body oil why would you use that to clean your face uh works quite well it’s an oil and there’s a little bit of an emulsifier in this a polyethylene glycol compound that kind of helps it rinse off a little bit more easily and you know if i happen to get it on my clothes it doesn’t leave an oily residue anyways i lather it all over my face and on my eyelashes and you really don’t need much i mean i i’ve been using this for a long time and i made it through this you know a little over half of the bottle but i’ve had this for a long time so it lasts you a long time and if you’re using water resistant sunscreen on your body to sun exposed areas as you should be uh you can rub this all over those areas as well to remove that film it works quite well after spreading the oil across my face my neck over my eyelashes on my body if i’ve been wearing a lot of water resistant sunscreen i then step into the shower i put my face under the running water and i would say the majority of my mascara and sunscreen and then that oil that stuff that’s all broken up rinses off but i do like to do the second step of the double cleanse to make sure that i remove that a cleanser so i went to go look at the ingredients of this because i was like is that a mineral oil which would have been fine if it was a mineral oil-based cleanser it’s actually not marketed as a cleanser it’s marketed as you know as far as i remember it was like either you like put it all over your body to get that glow maybe some people used it to tan out in the sun sometimes people used it to shave for instance like it had all these different purposes that it was marketed for back when i was younger definitely wasn’t used as a face oil a face cleansing oil but if you do look at this she makes some really good points so this is a sesame seed oil-based i keep wanting to refer to it as a cleanser but it’s not a cleanser you can use it in this case and i love that she pointed out the pig in that the polyethylene that she was talking about this is really important because i think a lot of people don’t realize that that is part of the key of what makes a really good cleansing oil or cleansing bomb is the fact that it works kind of like a surfactant it works as an emulsifier and you’ve heard me say that i want it to emulsify like my favorite cleansing oils my favorite cleansing balms they emulsify and it’s when you add that water you then work it up into that milky texture and it just gets everything off of your face and that is why it also rinses off of your skin really well you don’t want to leave that filmy texture on your skin some people do if you have really dry skin you might be totally fine with that but a lot of people don’t like an oil cleanse if it leaves a texture on their skin a film on their skin and this is great because it’s very straightforward sesame seed oil is a really nice balanced oil and then it has the emulsifier in it like she pointed out so it really is i think she’s on to something and i think neutrogena you should take a cue from dr dre and maybe bottle this as a as a face cleansing oil because she’s really onto something and now i want to give it a try and also it’s very affordable for 16 ounces it’s going for about 12 bucks used for years and love that i’m currently using is the cerave foaming face cleanser cerave is great you can’t go wrong with any of their products they all have ceramides which are helpful for the skin barrier they formulate their cleansers really well so they’re not very irritating that’s what i use i just spread it over my face my neck uh just a few gentle circles on my face and my neck and then rinse it off and you guys that is that’s exfoliating right there people are under the impression that they need to scrub and do all these things to exfoliate their skin but you’re really facilitating the shedding of those corneocytes from the stratum corneum just by the gentle circular motion of your fingertip pads the the water running over your skin this is part of exfoliating already let’s talk about what i did if you’ve watched my videos you know i love cerave i love their products i was introduced to cerave by dermatologists all of my dermatologist friends love cerave it’s a great brand you’ve heard me talk about how much i love it i don’t really need to repeat what she said as far as the manual exfoliation she makes a really good point again about manual exfoliation you don’t have to be rough with your skin you can spend that time you’ve probably heard nai for instance ellie beautiologist she’s also the golden rx here on youtube she talks about the 60-second rule and that comes down to the cleansing that you do with your skin you’re not only cleansing your skin but you’re really prepping it you’re exfoliating it very gently you know you’re just getting your skin ready for the next part of your skincare routine so that’s a very important part of that obviously people like to use exfoliators as well i i always personally think that an exfoliation is very important in the skincare routine but it also depends on what’s going on with your skin so again this is very much in line with dr dre’s philosophy simple is better you don’t have to be really harsh with your skin you don’t have to strip your skin you know when you think about like korean skin care and asian skincare they’re all about being gentle and soothing and repairing your skin so this is very much a philosophy that she follows and i completely appreciate that due to my body in the shower that sounds weird um in the shower i actually do not use body washes i haven’t used body washes for years body washes are mostly just perfumy detergent that can dry out your skin you really don’t need to use body wash or soap except to areas that are obviously visibly soiled and to areas where you have skin folds like under the armpits the groin area maybe the rear end and the back if you have acne on those areas there’s no need to use soap on your legs your arms and your back unless you have acne there’s there’s really no need to you end up over drying the skin and most consumers use way too much soap or body wash when they do this but um that being said what do i use to clean my body in areas of skin folds i use the cerave i’m currently using the cerave acne foaming cleanser you’re like oh my gosh you’re using a face wash on your body um i’ve used this or penoxyl’s benzoyl peroxide wash they’re similar i’ll list it down below as well i mean it’s like pick which one if you want to if you want to do this but the reason i like using this is because benzoyle peroxide is anti-inflammatory it’s anti-acne so if you have body acne it’s great for that purpose and i love using it specifically under my armpits i lather it there leave it on the skin for a few minutes and then rinse it off why do i do this because the antibacterial properties in this will help with the skin microflora in the armpit and anywhere else on the body where you’re using this particularly in areas of skin folds and because of that it will help reduce body odor we smell bad because we sweat and the bacteria that live on our skin break down that sweat certain bacteria like staph hominis they have certain enzymes that are actually responsible for that foul odor of body odor and using a benzoyl peroxide wash can help in controlling body odor i actually end up not really needing to use antiperspirant much at all and i live in a very hot humid climate that being said i’m not somebody who sweats a lot anyway but what i’m getting at is if you’re dealing with body odor this is a good product to incorporate into your skincare routine it’s also great if you are dealing with acne on the body you can lather it to the body sites where you have acne leave it on the skin for a few minutes and then rinse it off but if i have been outdoors all day which really never happens uh if i i love that she admits that because i haven’t been outdoors for a very very long time very very long time if i were outside all day say i had a yard and i was out working in the yard i was covering a lot of dirt and and pollen and all sorts of stuff then i would use body wash to the rest of my body that was you know visibly soiled and the body wash i would recommend is the cerave hydrating body wash or their bar soap i will list those down below they are great uh again you don’t need a ton uh just a little bit okay so what do all right so this is the reason why i know people love dr dre just things like you know the body oil earlier breaking that down as a face cleansing oil and being a cheaper larger amount that you can have so easily and it’s easily accessible too all the way to you know pointing out things like this you know i think there was a trend for a second there where people were talking about how you can use like glycolic acid for instance under your arms to stop body odor it’s the same kind of conversation here that she’s having where you’re trying to fight that bacteria that causes the odor i think it’s always just so interesting it’s kind of like it suddenly makes all of your products multi-purpose when she starts to point these kinds of things out this is like dr dre’s gift to everybody that follows her is that they have these moments of like aha that makes so much sense you know a lot of the time when i am using body wash i admittedly am using it because i do like the fragrance and i do feel like the skin on my body can handle it a little bit more she’s speaking truth in that you know fragrant body washes aren’t necessary and if you do feel like you need to cleanse because you think that you have an odor or body odor she’s bringing up some really good points about you know not having to use antiperspirant because she doesn’t feel like she stinks because she’s using these face cleansers that are just as good as body cleansers and in those areas like her underarms where you might typically get that kind of an odor so i love that she points this kind of stuff out you know she just makes it so simple you know your products can have multiple uses and she’s pointing this stuff out i do this this is a part of my skincare routine that always puzzles people i don’t use towels i stopped using towels years ago so after i turn off the water in my shower i stand there for a little bit and i put my hair up in what i call a t-shirt towel basically i just take an old t-shirt and wrap my hair up in that i ring most of the water out of my hair first so it’s not like sopping wet and while i’m standing in the shower most of the water has already dripped off of my body and my skin is just damp at this point and it’s dripped off into the tub i’m standing in the tub at this point and at that point i um put body lotion or moisturizer on my body while i’m standing there while my skin is still damp the reason i do that is that body moisturizers or moisturizers in general they really work best when applied to the skin while it’s still damp because they will help lock in the water better into your skin and reduce water loss that comes with bathing especially if you have used soap or if you have just shaved i don’t as a side note i don’t have to really shave my legs or underarms because i had laser hair removal long ago but if you shave definitely follow it up with a moisturizer to reduce dryness and irritation from the act of shaving same thing if you use body wash you really need to follow that up with a moisturizer it just disrupts the lipid barrier quite a bit and can lead to dryness and of course if you have eczema or a dry skin condition this is paramount to your skin care routine using a body moisturizer so i go ahead and put it on while i’m standing there and it’s not cold i mean it’s never really cold here in houston but in in my shower it’s still steamy and warm at this point so i’m not freezing i’m not uncomfortable but yeah i put it i put the moisturizer on like my extremities my legs my arms in terms of the body moisturizer that i use i’m currently using the vaseline intensive advanced repair um this is a lotion yeah lotion i’ve used their jelly cream as well both great the reason i like these for my body in particular uh is that they have petrolatum in them so that really locks in water petrolatum is an ingredient that’s best for reducing what’s called trans epidermal water loss i mean no no ingredient compares to petrol autumn so i really like using it especially on my body you can use it on the face as well and this is this is a wonderful product pretty affordable works well i also obviously love servies moisturizing cream their lotion i use those as well any moisturizer by uterine is also a great choice i digress um yeah at this point my skin is still a little damp i’m a little slippery in terms of my skin like i don’t want to put my clothing on at this point but i’m i’m mostly dry i’m not going to get water all over my floor at this point so i go ahead and step out of the shower all right so again interesting points i love that she uses a t-shirt for her hair i like to get fancy with it and i get my microfiber towels that are meant for the hair but she’s kind of serving that same purpose with it right when she’s using an old t-shirt like that i was actually very impressed by the way that she wrapped her hair with a t-shirt i have never ever tried that before and i might but it’s that same kind of concept you want to use something that’s not going to break your hair especially when it’s fragile and it’s wet like that and it helps to soak up all of that water a lot faster too the lotion inside of the shower when she’s still damp you guys have heard me say that about our faces like in my skincare routines you’ve heard me say that kind of stuff that you want to put on all of your hydrating and moisturizing products on damp skin because it just makes everything work better and you’re obviously locking in that hydration she’s talking about the same exact thing where she is locking in all of that hydration doctors dermatologists very specifically are obsessed like they love they love love love petrolatum so i’m not surprised to hear her say that she is correct there is no other occlusive like it i want somebody to like show me i want to know if there’s something better than that because it’s not fancy or anything like that but it does do its job when it comes to locking in all of the moisture into your skin the trans-epidermal water loss that it’s preventing there is really no other ingredient like it and i stand on a bamboo mat uh and i think that makes a huge difference bamboo is a great bath mat by the way you should have a bamboo bath they don’t harbor mold like a fabric one they last a lot longer and they they’re kind of elevated up off the floor so if you are a little bit damp still they you know the water can go underneath the mat and then you can easily lift it up and clean underneath versus the mats soaking up the water i i love them anyways i stand on the bamboo mat this has nothing to do with skincare but i’ve actually tried to get a bamboo mat and then my husband hated it and so he didn’t let me keep it it turned into an argument so maybe if i show him that somebody else online is using a bamboo mat and their reasoning maybe he’ll listen to her and not because he won’t listen to me i’m still a little damp at this point but i’ve got body moisturizer on and my face is damp so i go ahead and put on my facial moisturizer right away and i’m currently using cetaphil night moisturizer the redness relieving redness relieving night moisturizer i’ve talked about this in numerous videos including my video on best products for dealing with redness ah this is great you don’t have to necessarily be coping with redness to appreciate this and to benefit from it it’s a fragrance free facial moisturizer with licorice root which can calm down redness is anti-inflammatory so if you’re coping with a lot of irritation it can help with that it’s also very good if you are dealing with hyperpigmentation licorice root can have a bit of a brightening effect i talked about it in my video on best products or ingredients for hyperpigmentation yeah multi multifunctional ingredient and pretty easy to tolerate doesn’t cause irritation or anything like that beyond that this also has ceramides in it which can help clear your skin barrier to start making its own ceramides which are important part of keeping keeping everything in check and reducing water loss from the skin and just helping the health of your skin and it also has panthenol in it panthenol is an ingredient that is great for calming down inflammation it can smooth out wrinkles it’s very hydrating it’s a wonderful humectant and emollient i have a video dedicated to it and this also has shea butter in it a wonderful moisturizer for locking in hydration and reducing trans epidermal water loss and by the time i put that on my body is completely dry i typically get it’s not surprising to see that she recommends a product from cetaphil dermatologists love cetaphil pretty much as much as they love petrolatum and as much as they love cerave so there’s a lot of reasoning behind it and the main one is that it tends to play well in a person’s skincare routine it has interesting ingredients in it there are lots of nice emollients like she said there are ceramides there’s sunflower seed oil that will help with your lipids there’s nice cinnamon in here there’s caffeine in here there’s there’s a lantern in here there are lots of really nice ingredients in this moisturizer and it’s actually a moisturizer that if i have to run over to the drugstore it’s probably one that i would pick up now dressed at this point my pajamas because this is nighttime and after i get dressed in my pajamas i will typically put on cerave healing ointment onto my lips and i highly recommend it if you have lips the petrolatum in this of course will reduce water loss you also have hyaluronic acid in this product and ceramides now the hyaluronic acid will actually help hold on to a little bit of water in your skin and kind of plump up the lips and smooth out little fine lines and wrinkles on your lips this product does a lot for very little little money it’s very cost effective product it also has panthenol in it again like i said with cetaphil that’s a great ingredient for not only acting as an emollient to smooth out surface skin cells but it’s also very hydrating i’ve been using this for years i swear by it and you can put it to other areas of the body where you have really dry rough skin i like using it on my elbows my knees for example yeah it’s a great versatile product and i highly recommend it the next step in i highly recommend it if you have lips this is you know one of those products that i think everybody it’s like a holy grail product everybody should have it in their medicine cabinet this became a holy grail product for me when i became a mom the thing that makes this a really nice ointment is not only that it has a petrolatum but it has all those other ingredients like the hyaluronic acid that she mentioned the panthenol the panthenol is very soothing and strengthening for the skin so it’s just a really wonderful product and again it goes back to she really often points out how you can use all of your skincare products probably some that people have in their medicine cabinets and use them in lots of different ways she gives multiple purpose to a lot of these products that are just everyday products that we tend to have it’s funny because um if you go to my personal youtube channel i did a skincare routine for my babies i feel like my skincare routine for my babies would be very dr dre approved and i mentioned in that video that i treat my babies i treat baby skin like it is the most sensitive skin out there this is fresh new skin that hasn’t been exposed to everything to all of the environment and everything like this is skin that really is truly sensitive skin and this is where i really take this approach of you know someone like like dr dre that approach of a dermatologist like the way that they would want you to treat your skin there are obviously things that happen with our skin over time things that we have to deal with whether it’s being acne prone or having hyperpigmentation melasma in my case aging that kind of stuff that comes into play and you know that’s why our skincare routines change but when you think about it dermatologists tend to see people when they come in with their biggest issues people that have sensitive skin or that have some kind of a dermatitis happening and it’s usually something that they did to themselves or they put on their skin that caused it that’s when a dermatologist really sees people and so when you think about it from that perspective she’s approaching skin care with that in mind she has seen all of these things that people do to their skin and so it’s really important when she’s looking at all of her ingredients and products she really takes that into account when she is recommending stuff and when she’s picking the products that she’s going to use personally my skincare routine is kind of the only active ingredient i really mess around with and that is tretinoin which is a prescription retinoid so you have to have a prescription to obtain it but i will suggest some alternatives that are available over the counter which of course you can buy at walmart in the case of prescription tretinoin it’s retinoic acid which we have the most data on i mean it’s been around the longest so we have a lot of long-term data on it but we have good data on other ingredients that you can buy over the counter as well so i will share those with you in a moment but yeah um you know i get a lot of questions about when to put it on and and whatnot you’ll notice i put my moisturizer on first i always do that because i like to put moisturizer on after cleansing right away always to reduce irritation and dryness in the skin and the instructions on any topical retinoid will typically tell you to clean the skin and pat it dry and put the ingredient put the product on i don’t do that and i don’t advise patients to do that because i find that it increases irritation quite a bit because when you cleanse the skin or get it wet you disrupt the skin barrier and that kind of that’s kind of a setting the stage for excessive irritation and then you go putting topical vitamin a whatever the form on that you’re more likely to have irritation people have concerns around putting it on top of moisturizer that it won’t penetrate but we actually do have studies showing that in fact the the endpoints of using a topical retinoid are achieved when applied after after moisturizer so i make sure that my moisturizer has fully dried and absorbed my skin’s no longer damp there’s not like globs of moisturizer anywhere it’s like completely dry you can see here what it looks like people always want an exact time on this and i can’t give that to you it’s going to depend on you know the ambient humidity in your environment and and whatnot but um yeah i i will then put tretinoin on many many forms of vitamin a will degrade with exposure to ultraviolet light so it’s just best to put it on at night time and you actually can wait until like right before you get into bed to put it on just make sure it dries fully before you get into bed so it doesn’t rub off on your sheets but yeah i just use a tiny pea-sized amount i avoid getting it around my eyes it can cause excessive irritation around those areas i don’t put it on my neck uh because the neck has fewer oil glands and it is a lot thinner than the skin of your face is more prone to irritation so i don’t use it there uh but yeah i mean i’ve been using it for several years now so yeah that’s basically my nighttime routine alternatives to prescription retinoic acid uh that you can buy over the counter are going to be uh adapalene now adapalene or before she gets into the over-the-counter retinoids that she recommends you know so tretinoin is a very interesting topic we can talk about it for a very very long time i’m always so envious of people that can use tretinoin like this i don’t remember if she said that she uses it every single night she actually answered one of my questions and i wondered if she put it on her neck because i cannot handle strong retinoids in general much less a retinoic acid on my neck area so i was curious to know if she can handle it there too and turns out she’s she’s like nah don’t do it so that’s good to know but she makes really good points about putting this on top of your moisturizer and not putting it on your skin when it’s still damp you guys have heard me talk about this again same same philosophy it’s like if your skin is more damp your products penetrate deeper she also brought up that point of the skin barrier being disrupted you want to be really careful when you’re dealing with tretinoin trenton owen obviously is a wonderful ingredient you have heard me talk about how much i love retinoids i’m just not one of those people that can handle tretinoin i have given it a solid try trust me i have tried to commit to tretinoin because it would be so easy life would be so much easier if i didn’t have to use all these over-the-counter products but what i find is i tend to do better with the like slow and steady wins erase situation with my skin i always think that my skin is very resilient and i can put a lot on my skin and then suddenly i can’t like i’ve taken it too far whenever i use tretinoin i just cannot no matter how long i take with it no matter how slow i am with it whether i put it on top of my moisturizer or not i just cannot get past the the irritated phase and the flaky phase i just am always in a constant flakiness and so i can’t handle it so i like to take a step back and i use the over-the-counter retinoids for some reason i can never do something really really strong the strongest i can go actually is retinaldehyde which i’m very very interested in and i’ve started using like i talk about one that i use from allies of skin that i just love but for the most part like every time i’ve tried like a one percent retinol for instance it’s always ended up being too strong for me and i’ve always had to take it down to something that’s a little more gentle but i still see results from over time so i think retinoids are just great i love that she’s saying like i use tretinoin but there are also lots of different over-the-counter retinoids that you can use and there are different reasons to use them and i obviously i feel like she’s going to break this down now different is a naphthalene derivative of retinoic acid you’re like what the heck does that mean it binds to slightly different receptors but uh it is similar to retinoic acid has a different structure it’s much less irritating we have the most data for using it for acne but we have some newer studies now showing that it can improve some of the visible signs of aging so this is my go-to recommendation for for an over-the-counter topical vitamin a however another one that’s really good and i have recommended in several videos is the neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair regenerating cream it’s they have a fragra they have a version that has fragrance and one that’s fragrance free i would suggest getting the fragrance free version it will be less irritating um yeah this is a fantastic product to use in a similar fashion the next step is the most important okay so she’s pointing out a dappling in different you have heard me talk about different i think it’s wonderful if you’re dealing with acne or pimples any kind of breakout it is a wonderful product it used to be prescription only and now it’s available over the counter so it’s awesome people have asked me about whether it has any benefits for anti-aging and i always say like it’s not necessarily meant for that but it’s interesting to hear that there are newer studies that show that there are some some signs of it that said i think there are still better products like the one that she suggested you know as a second recommendation and it’s kind of like one is for acne and one is for anti-aging more so i think that would be the reason to decide which one would be better for you and for people that are a little bit younger that ask like can you be a teenager or in your early 20s and starting retinol that would be kind of the reasoning to think about it right like do you need the anti-aging or do you want to stop your breakouts important step and that is i go to sleep seriously sleep has tremendous benefit to the health of your skin sleep helps in all aspects of your life cognition mood longevity the skin is a window to what is going on inside the rest of your body it looks it’s best when you have been getting adequate sleep shoot for eight hours all right the a.
m sleep is the thing that i honestly absolutely need you know it’s funny it’s like with babies especially you go through like these ups and downs of when they sleep for a second there we put my baby for the last few months on a sleep schedule and it was starting to change my life and she rounded the corner to the one year mark and suddenly she’s going through a sleep regression and i’m telling you guys i have not slept and and she’s right i mean you don’t need a doctor to tell you how much sleep will affect you you can feel it and you can see it and i just i feel like i feel like i just got scolded that i haven’t been getting my sleep pain is much less involved because i don’t have a lot of time in the morning i don’t wash my face in the morning you certainly can i get many questions do you need to wash your face in the morning if you’ve applied topical retinoid or retinol at night you do not uh sometimes it’s advised to do that because you’re rinsing it off and maybe you’re reducing the duration of contact with it so it’s less irritating that’s certainly fine i i don’t do that so i just start the day with sunscreen currently i am using the image prevention daily is that called daily ultimate protection spf 50.
this product is a combination sunscreen it has zinc octanoxide and octi salad so by combination i mean you have a mineral active ingredient and you have some chemical active ingredients to yield a product that delivers broad spectrum protection um this is one that i’ve been using kind of all all summer i got it a while ago i like it actually i really like how it looks on my skin it doesn’t have fragrance listed but it has a weird grape bubble gum type odor yeah so there’s that it doesn’t last it doesn’t linger on the surface of the skin so if you’re bothered by scents you know it doesn’t have that i encourage everybody to film themselves putting on sunscreen watching and watching it back you will get better and better at putting it on because you’ll appreciate how many skip areas that you you may have a lot of people forget to put it around their eyes they forget to put it on the sides of their face they don’t put it on their ears maybe they don’t remember to put it on their neck so make sure you cover all surfaces i start every day doing that it’s funny she says that because i was thinking as i watched her put on sunscreen that maybe there are some places that i skip i know not me you know the thing is is that i wear my hair down and i have really thick hair i’ve seen some people disagree with me having thick hair but i have some thick hair you guys and a lot of the time i guess i feel like my hair is covering certain areas you know i’ve gone to estheticians and they’re like you know you have some redness like on this part of your neck and there and you get this realization that like there are kind of like weird little places that you skip with your sunscreen and you’re not really being diligent about it so it’s interesting to say you know like to look at yourself putting on your sunscreen because even just watching somebody else put on their sunscreen made me think about how i’m applying my sunscreen um but other sunscreens that i’m also currently using um and love i love this coppertone defendant care oil-free oil-free spf 50.
this is really good unlike the image skin care sunscreen this is water resistant so it’s really good on a hot humid day which is pretty much every day it stays in place and doesn’t sweat off as readily this video is not going to be an exhaustive review of sunscreens i’ve got tons of videos on that but another one that i’m currently using and have used for years and always enjoyed is the neutrogena clear face now this one does have oxybenzone in it and if it gets in my eyes it stings a lot but it doesn’t burn or sting putting it on on the skin but i’ve always enjoyed both of these and they’re pretty affordable as well so if you’re on a budget these are good options i typically put the sunscreen that i’m using on my face and my ears down all the way on my neck and my upper chest often but using sunscreen on my body it varies depending on what i’m going to be wearing i primarily rely on clothing to protect me from the sun i wear a lot of upf 50 fabrics long sleeves gloves pants so i don’t tend to expose my skin to the sun much but i do enjoy wearing shorts and so what i’ve been using for my body to sun exposed areas and i highly recommend is the use room daily hydration cream i’ve talked about this in other videos but it’s wonderful because it absorbs into the skin really quickly it’s not greasy or sticky that is not a pleasant feeling so it’s great for that and it’s just a nice everyday moisturizer for your skin and it happens to have sunscreen in it so that’s what i’ve been using a lot lately again i am mostly inside then another product that i liked you know i hadn’t actually considered and it’s funny that i hadn’t considered it because i am pretty intense about not exposing my skin to the sun but i really hadn’t considered how much my my clothing does not protect my skin and then michelle from lap muffin beauty science did an instagram post and i’ll leave a link to it she put an instagram post up saying how our clothing really doesn’t protect us from uv rays and it really got my it got me thinking a lot about that i haven’t made any major changes i admittedly have not been really out in the sun much lately either but it made me start thinking about my kids this is always what happens is like i start thinking about my kids and i’m like well how much am i protecting them from the sun so so i’m definitely i’ve got that on my mind a lot lately and it’s it’s funny to hear her say that because this is something that i’ve been thinking about lately take with me on the go for skin care is my eucerin daily hydration hand cream this is very similar if not identical to the body cream it’s just a smaller tube and i end up putting this on my hands a fair amount because i’m washing my hands all day and so i like to reapply sunscreen and moisturizer and this serves both functions it’s really a good one i also put some you know what i’ve been doing is i have been testing out so many different sunscreens and at the end of the day i find that sunscreen is moisturizer for the most part most of them are and so what i end up doing is if i don’t really like the sunscreen for my face i end up using it as my hand cream so that’s what i’ve been doing lately and it’s been very helpful and i feel like my hands look like they are protected i’m not showing my age with my hands yet sunscreen on my lips that is an area that you cannot forget and is frequently forgotten i have always used the vani cream spf 30 lip protectant this is the best in my opinion like i don’t mess around with others because it really keeps your lips hydrated a lot of lip balm sunscreens i find incredibly drying and irritating this goes on white uh but it does fade down to this like pinky look and to me it looks nice um and i love this strongly recommend it it’s what i use every day and it has been so hard to find the right lip balm with spf they either taste nasty they leave a white kind of look on your lips and change the color of your lips and then you have to put on other lip balms and stuff and i don’t know the texture is never right i i actually have one that i’ve been using a lot by jack black is the brand the jack black is an spf 25 but it’s it’s fine at least i find that it’s fine on my lips because i’m constantly reapplying so spf 25 is totally fine in that sense i’m like literally applying like sometimes within the hour so you know it’s it’s a little bit different spf 30 and higher is usually what you want to go for for your face and your body but that’s because you’re probably not going to reapply for like another two or three hours two hours is usually what’s recommended but as far as on my lips i’m like constantly reapplying it and i like it a lot and not a skincare product but a beauty product i love i always come back to this it’s my favorite mascara this is the only makeup i really wear it’s a maybelline colossal this is the shade glam black it does not flake it does not smear it stays in place this is not water resistant they do make a water resistant one that’s my skincare routine again i will list all these products down below for you guys i hope you enjoyed this video thank you walmart for sponsoring today’s video and if you liked it give it a thumbs up share it with your friends and as always don’t forget sunscreen and subscribe i’ll talk to you guys tomorrow bye so that was a really simple morning skincare routine and it’s funny so i’m finally reacting to this skincare routine because i felt like there was so much more to it back in the day some there were a bunch of people that asked me to react to dr dre’s morning skincare routine and i remember watching the video and being like you guys she wears sunscreen like she wears sunscreen i don’t know what you want me to react to i don’t really have many notes about her morning skincare routine because it is it’s so straightforward this is what you need is you need sunscreen the only thing that’s really that stands out for some people and i’m sure some people have questions about is the fact that she doesn’t wash her face in the morning she obviously elaborated on that you guys have heard me say that i don’t i don’t always wash my face in the morning i think there are a couple of reasons to wash your face in the morning and i’m not saying again i don’t really wash my face in the morning too often unless i felt like i wore you know some really heavy creams or like a sleeping mask and stuff the night before then i might want to remove it in the morning or if i’m like in a really humid area or something i sometimes feel like i want to wash my face in the morning but the other reasons would be sometimes i work out in the morning and so i then wash my face and then i know that you know people i know really well that have oily skin or acne skin i know that they like to really wash their face in the morning it’s because they don’t feel like their skin was clean we can talk about this at length because there are different philosophies on this some people think that if you just let your skin kind of do its own thing then maybe the oil production will even itself out and i think that like i have a lot of like belief in that too even for people with oily skin but i do understand a lot of people i’ve even heard estheticians and dermatologists say that washing your face in the morning also sets the tone for all of your products to work better and like any bacteria or anything that you’ve built up over night while you’ve been sleeping you need to get that off of your face before you put anything else on it that can be occlusive and then trap all of that because that could be contributing to your acne so there are a lot of ways to think about it these are some of my favorite things about dr dre that i feel like she has a little bit of a different philosophy from your average dermatologist like the double cleansing and not wanting to wash her face in the morning i feel like the this isn’t something that you always get from a dermatologist and so i really like i said earlier i appreciate that she does these things and she puts this out there so that was dr dre and her morning and evening skincare routine actually was more like evening skincare routine and then morning skincare routine if you have any questions or comments you can ask me in the comments below i’ll leave a link to her original video also so that you can also find her channel you can find me on instagram i’m at susanura and i’ll talk to you guys soon bye
