Dior Skincare Digital Talk – Capture Totale Super Potent Eye Serum
I was thinking maybe we should start again with a moment of silence and just like a deep breath and maybe an OM. What do you guys think about that? I love that idea Gisele. Please kick us off, set the tone.
OM How does it feel? Doesn’t it feel nice? I feel like I just stretched, that was such a good morning exercice. Thank you Gisele! The breath is the most powerful thing we have. It just can, you know… can ground us! It just helps us… come back to our center.
You have quite a powerful OM! I have to say I wasn’t expecting that. That sound to come from your body! Well it’s the perfect way to start today’s conversation. Thank you so much for that Gisele and thank you everyone from all over the world for joining us today for Dior’s second Skincare Talk.
We are so honored to have you. Oh! Well thank you for having me and thank you Dior for putting us all together. Where is everybody else? Where are you guys speaking from? Paris! Oh hi Peter! I haven’t seen you in so long! Good to see you again! How old… What time is it in Paris? I thought you were going to ask me how old I am! No! How old are you now? If you don’t ask me how old I am! But you know with age comes with, the mental feels that? I feel better at forty than I felt at thirty.
I’ll tell you that much. Fantastico! So where is everybody else? We have Paris, we have – Shanghai! – Shanghai, so we have Shanghai. We have Paris, we have Tampa Bay, we have… Los Angeles – Los Angeles! Oh that’s early there.
Oh bright and early! – Bright and early, let’s go! I love waking up early. In New York, right? – Dallas! Well I am so happy to see you all again and to meet some new faces too. And I want to thank Dior real quick for sending me the cream because last time I was complaining “Where is my cream?”.
So thank you I got my cream and I’ve been using it and I love it, love it, love it. Please send ten more! Gisele, I was going to ask – what were your first impressions of the product? Because this is not your typical eye product, right? But can I tell you I think this is so awesome because it kind of gives a little massage! I mean, it’s pretty amazing.
It’s not greasy but it’s very moisturizing. Because I feel like the eyes are definitely the most sensitive part of the face, right? As I am maturing – I wanna say… This is where I definitely noticed, that it is the most… Where I want to have the most care.
You know? I guess in your twenties you don’t really care so much about removing make-up on my eyes. Now I am like “OK, let me remove my make-up”. I really feel like the eyes are the window of the soul.
As I am now forty, I definitely sense that the eyes are something that I really wanna take care of, more now, that I am more aware of it… than ever. I think the forties are going to be awesome! The twenties were really challenging, I’m not going to lie! The thirties – I was getting a grip on stuff, right? I was like “OK?” And now the forties, I am like “Let’s go!” And it is so funny what you said about the “eyes being the window to the soul” because right now, we live in a world where we go outside and all we see are people’s eyes.
So I felt like I have to communicate only using my eyes with people. Whether that is a smile or raising my eyebrows, just to let someone know that I am acknowledging them, you know? I think every situation that we go through brings an opportunity for us to adapt and learn something new.
I feel like now – and I don’t know about you – but for me I go the extra-mile, the extra-point of actually looking someone in their eyes. Just trying to send a positive vibration, a positive energy through the eyes because the eyes are very powerful, right? You look at someone’s eyes and you kind of see the life they went through.
It is so, so true. And you know, I don’t think there is anyone who can speak better to the power of the eyes, than your friend and long-time collaborator I understand? The Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, Peter Philips who has created some of the most iconic eye make-up looks that I can ever even think of in beauty history.
Peter! Thank you for being here with us! Hi! Thanks for having me! What do you think is so important about the eyes? Like from the philosophy of make-up? What is it about the power of the eyes and the power of the gaze that makes them such an important focal point of the face? Well, when you talk about Gisele for example, Gisele is one of the few girls and not so many – who actually don’t need make-up to be expressive and to talk with their eyes.
That is true. We have known each other for many years now, and most of the time you don’t really use much make-up on you. Yes! For myself and if I talk to somebody, I realize that I always look at the lips not the mouth automatically.
And months ago, everybody started wearing masks so I was forced to look into the eyes. And in the beginning, I was a bit uncomfortable because I never knew “Ok. Where do I look? Left or right eye? Do I look in-between the eyes?” And by looking people into the eyes, suddenly I discover more than just a surface.
Like you said, it is the soul, and that’s why it’s very important that every little thing that can help to make that area more alive, more glowy more radiant is a gift you know. Now I sound like an advertiser but that’s why this is such a good thing! And it’s taking care of that.
Even little cream, cold water washes, things like that, it will help and they are key. When it comes to applying make-up to that area, when you are working with someone like Gisele who is so long known for that iconic look, what is your general make-up philosophy? I start with a prep, that’s the key! In make-up in general, it is key to make sure the preparation of the skin is…exploited to the maximum.
Clean skin, hydrated skin, little massage even before you start and then it is slowly building up because sometimes you don’t even need much. And I think Peter, when you are really good at what you do, you do just very little, but the very little makes a huge difference and I think Peter is just fantastic at that.
After one asks me about make-up, I am always saving in my trunk of make-up, I always have a little container with nothing. That is my explanation. A little container with nothing? Sometimes you have to use a little container with nothing and that’s a very healthy philosophy I think.
You don’t as a Make-Up Artist, have to feel obliged always to do something. That little container with nothing, sometimes and especially when you are working with a girl like Gisele, is essential. You don’t need anything.
Voilà. I love that container of nothing as just a reminder that sometimes less is more, and that someone in front of you is already beautiful enough. But we did talk so much about prepping the skin before we even put on make-up, before we even get to make-up and obviously we are joined by the iconic Joanna Czech, the facialist extraordinaire, known for slapping people all over, but slapping people gently! I still got to get that slap, we got to figure out when I am in New York and when you are in New York, I am curious about that.
I will let you do it! You are the Queen of it, tell us! Queen of slapping, yes! Go ahead Phil! Oh thank you-no! You are notoriously discerning about the products that you are willing to actually talk about.
So, tell us what we need to know about this bad boy here, the Super Potent Eye Serum and why it has your seal of approval? I can’t start this before sharing with you guys one thing that happened 35 years ago… so here I am for definitely great reasons.
I was 23, or almost 23 – so now you do your mathematics, I am the oldest in the group… anyhow. I wrote at the end of my school, a sort of dissertation and the subject was “Framing of your eyes”. That was that Chapter 3, page 15, and I will try to translate what I wrote 35 years ago.
“Beautiful eyes, are most of all healthy eyes. It means that you are glowing, they are bright, there is no redness. That skin around those eyes is nice, elastic- that is what I am translating from Polish at the moment, so I would say- with great elasticity.
What matters is a proper care for your eyes that involves proper hygiene, right techniques of demaquillage, a proper application of serums and creams. Rest of your eyes, calming treatments for your eyes, exercise and eye massage.
So these are a few sentences, just out of 117 pages, that I’ve written 35 years ago. So here I am, at the right subject, at the right moment! So always -mask or not mask- I was paying attention to eyes.
So what is particular about this serum, this product? I love the triple action of it. So of course biological action, that’s basic ingredients. We have our famous longoza extract that creates basically waves of energy for our cutaneous stem cells.
We have active rye extract that stimulates proteins in the fragile eye area, they support fibroblast. Fibroblast is responsible for contraction of our muscles around and this way we create firmness and tonicity of that area.
We have of course, my very, very, very, favorite -for 35 years- hyaluronic acid. There is a touch of glycerin in this product and that’s what creates a nice glow and continuous hydration but also longevity because of the fast penetration of hyaluronic acid.
So this hyaluronic acid penetrates fast, penetrates quite fast and this way remains much longer. Then we have our mechanical factor. When I first saw it, I said “Oh I have never seen such an applicator!” As soon as I touched my eye, I thought I broke it.
And that is when I learn about flexibility, 360 degrees which allows us to get into any corner, any area of the eyes, every square millimeters is being touched without any manipulation of your wrists, you don’t need to work too hard, because the neck already moves around.
And then of course there is one more, thermo-action. That is the fact that that little head, the tip of the applicator is made of zamak alloy. Zamak alloy has this great ability to reduce temperature, calories of the body.
So with one application, you already can reduce temperature of the skin by about 1.5 Celsius, so it has an amazing cooling effect – like a cryotherapy situation that means anti-inflammatory, means tightening and means depuffing.
Joanna, thank you so much for explaining all of these intricacies of this product. There is a lot going on in this little tube, so we really appreciate it. We also have two lovely skincare experts. We have the incredible Sophie Carbonari and Doctor Zhe here, to help us actually explain more of the wonderful benefits of this product.
Sophie and Dr Zhe, thanks for joining us! Thank you! Sophie, let’s start with you. As a facialist, what is so special about this product? How would you use it on your clients for example? The things I like with this serum, the Super Potent Serum, it’s really like you work on the double effect.
The cryo-effect helps working on the lymphatic system. When I do the facial, the things I like to do first is starting with three important points that I use like acupressure. That would be the head of the eyebrows, middle of the eyebrows and the corner between the eyes and the nose.
After that, I would just apply the product by pressing and relief for the lower eyelid and eyebrows area. So after that, I would just calm and stimulate a little bit more by doing circle motions, from inside to outside, always.
And when I am done with that, the things I will finish with is draining the lymph from inside to outside. So I just come here and lift up- like this, that’s perfect. Ok! Now do we apply the product first over the area like a thin layer of the product and then we do it? When you do the pressure point, you just press and put a little bit of product, here and here.
And after when you do the stimulation part, you just press and you apply, press and relief, press and relief… Amazing. Gisele, I know you love a massage technique, was that good for you? I am sitting here, she’s talking and I am sitting like “ohhh” putting serum on my face! I am like “Keep talking, ok, I like these pressure points!” The idea is always thinking about inside to outside.
Never… kind of never. I prefer to not doing it back and forth. You have to respect the lymphatic flow and also by stimulating those points, you work first on the lacrimal gland and here, on the sinus area.
It actually feels really good here, because this is really tense in this part, over here. You know why? Because also in the face mapping, those points are really stimulating the drainage organs – The lift drainage! Exactly.
For me, starting with pressure points is always the key of a good massage. Sophie, thank you so much. That was so helpful, I will be doing that tonight or as soon as I take my make-up on! Dr. Zhe, we have a doctor in the house! How are you? Hi! Fine! I am in Shanghai, it is 10pm now! 10pm! Well, we will not keep you because that’s my bedtime.
10pm I would be in bed by now! Thank you for being with us. Can you explain a little bit about what is the scientific thing that really appeals to you about this product? I know there is so much research Dior did before bringing this product to market and I am just wondering what your thoughts were on it.
From a doctor’s point of view, the environment and ageing have a crucial effect on the skin around our eyes. First step, the 9 signs of ageing is fine lines, dark circles, roughness and the lose tonicity of our eye area.
As the bone, the skin and the ligament lose tonicity around our eyes. And the appearance of wrinkles, the air bags, the dropping eyelid and the tear troughs. This product I think, is good for my eye area and it is focused on the stem-cell energy.
So what’s more? I want to add that the natural ingredient, the essence has a night fragrance that makes it really comfortable during the whole process. From a doctor’s point of view, preventing ageing is far better than treating the severe symptoms after they have appeared with medical measures.
So now, let’s do it, let’s use the product! Thank you Dr Zhe! I really appreciate it. Obviously, you know Gisele, one of the things you talk about all of the time whenever you are talking about beauty is that it is not just about what we put on our faces.
Right? Beauty is also a about our lifestyle and you have shown us your yoga poses, your healthy eating, your wellness philosophy, your spirituality. You feel like all of these things are actually what is helping you feel beautiful everyday, right? I think that everything that we can do that is supporting us, that is nourishing us and is helping us to feel good – naturally are going to help us look better, right? I always say to let the food be your medicine because I also think food is very important.
Like if you eat a bunch of greasy food, this is going to be hard to have a really good skin. The more you eat your vegetables, the more healthier is your diet, that is going to reflect on your skin. Hydration is huge, not only drinking lots of water but also hydrating from inside out, which is water but also hydrating with only good products.
Our skin is the largest organ so of course we want to have really good quality products in our skin because all of it helps! We actually have a fellow yogi in the chat Gisele! Sami, I hear that you are a hot yoga aficionado, is that right? Yes, I am an aficionado.
It’s been a little bit difficult these days with hot yoga but… Oh! But it’s a very beautiful cure to your mental health. What do you feel yoga taught you about the importance of your lifestyle when it comes to feeling your most beautiful? Gisele was speaking about this earlier… Breathing is not something that you really think about on a daily basis and we do it every single second of our lives.
And being able to focus on your breath, realizing that it is there and seeing the way that is affects you when you do focus on your breath, do take a deep breath in and a deep breath out. It really changes your entire day, it allows you to become stronger and better in every way… I am so sorry, my puppy is really trying to join this chat! He is very sweet! He is so cute.
Is there anything that you learn as you go that you feel like has helped you with making connections with people, especially as you are seeing people or even in the way that your eyes aren’t looking… What kind of changes have you made that you feel have really benefited your eyes in that way? Like many of you have been saying in this conversation… When you look good, you feel good.
That comes in in so many different ways. Being happy with what you are doing with your life and how you are presenting yourself as a person and loving yourself on the inside it has a huge effect on you, on the outside, on the physical beauty.
Especially today because we have to wear masks and cover our faces. We don’t really have as much or nearly human connections, it is such a nice thing to be able to make that eye-contact with people and acknowledge somebody else’s presence.
And trying to exude that positivity through your eyes, beaming through yourself into the other person and show them that you care, even if you don’t really know them. It is a really powerful tool and you can say so much, just from a stare.
That is so nice. Thank you Sami for sharing all of that. And Lei! I know you are one of the busiest women in all of Shanghai, am I right about that? Well maybe one of the busiest, among the busiest, it’s true, yes, it’s true.
And yet your skin is glowing even though is past 10pm there. You look absolutely radiant. I know you do a lot of on-camera work, that you are running an empire. How do you stay connected to your health, your wellness even as you’re so busy and on the go all the time? Right.
Actually, one of the secrets is… I think many of my generation especially my colleagues would agree that I usually don’t wear make-up. Unless it’s necessary. Skincare always takes the first priority and among all the skincare products- eye products, very important ones- before I go with the Capture Totale Eye Serum, I use 3 different eye creams or eye products.
In the morning and at night. And you can’t believe it. When I get this one, the new product, I am at my very big forties. Actually, today is my very big forty birthday, but… Oh! Happy Birthday! Oh my goodness she is speaking with us at her special day! Right? It’s a big day, right? It’s a very big day to all of us.
I have found changes about my lines, my wrinkles, my eye bags… Those parts I have been worried so much but it does make changes. And I agree that eyes are the key, the windows of the soul. It is the way you see the world and it is also the way people see you.
When you have eye-contact with people, people can see quite through you. This is very important. So how to keep your eyes healthy, refreshing, pure and clean… And radiant. That remains a lot of strength habits, perseverance.
I think we should start at least from this very new product. I think it makes changes and miracles, even! I just got addicted to it. My gosh! Fortieth birthday, I guess the proof is in the pudding because your eyes look beautiful, and you have been using this product.
So here you are, what a glowing testimony! Right? But I agree with Gisele we need to have very healthy living habits, like try to get up early, go to bed early, regularly. Resist all the temptations of night life, happy moments, happy hours, that’s very important right? Yes! But still needs a lot of patience, perseverance and consistence.
Thank you so much! Well Gisele, we have had a wide-ranging conversation. We have covered skincare, science, philosophy, a little bit of spirituality, we have covered a lot of ground today. What are some of your impressions leaving this conversation? What are you thinking about? I am just very grateful that I got to share this time with you guys and I just wanna say thank you also for Dior, for bringing us all together.
This is not all the time that I have conversation with so many different people from so many different parts of the world and talk about how we can do things that make us feel good and I think, the cream is one of the things that help us look good from the outside because it gives us the glow.
But as important as all the other things we talked about here, the power of yoga, the power of nourishing ourselves in all the ways that we can. Ok Gisele, before I let you go, I have to ask just one more thing.
So you are famous for how you look at the camera and all of us are trying to take better pictures of ourselves all the time – is there a secret to the Gisele gaze? Is there a technique? Is there something that we should be thinking of when we look at the camera? Do you have a way that you do it? Just before you go, if you could just give us that look really quick.
You know? What I think is that it definitely helps for you to be thinking about something because the eyes, they are so expressive – if you are thinking about something that makes you happy, your eyes they show that, right? And if you want to be a little seductive and you have your little tricks… But also feeling whatever it is that you want to express, just feeling it in your… Thinking about it and your eyes will just naturally express that.
Ok, I have to try that the next time that I take a selfie, I appreciate it, thank you Gisele! Just think about that and you are going to reflect it in your picture. Thank you Gisele! Lots of love to you guys! Have a beautiful day, take care! Bye guys!
