Best of Skincare 2020 Pt. 2- Serums, Sunscreens, Masks | Kaya Empire
hey guys welcome back to my channel in today’s video we’re doing part two to my best of skincare video so earlier this week i uploaded a video that included the categories of moisturizers and toner and acne treatments and cleansers and oils so if you want to see that video i will have it linked down below but in today’s video we’re going over serums sunscreens and masks now these are all products that i have thoroughly tested tried loved in 2020 and that’s why they’re in this video so we’ll start with serums now this first product i it would be wrong for me not to talk about it because i used so many bottles of this this is the visviva urea five percent and niacinamide at five percent rose water serum this is truly like the most gorgeous hydrating serum of all time it smells really delicately like rose petals in like the most beautiful girly elevated way possible but not only that it also has urea at five percent which is really hydrating and niacinamide at five percent which really helps with hyperpigmentation and if you have excessive oiliness it can also help with that i used this religiously every single morning for many many months it is a little bit of a pricier product but i do think it’s absolutely worth it because it’s a gorgeous sensorial experience and it is just so hydrating and so lovely underneath of any product you apply another hydrating serum that i’ve really been enjoying in 2020 is from timeless skincare this is the coenzyme q10 serum this has water matrixyl 3000 ubiquinone um glycerin hyaluronic acid aloe vitamin e and a preservative it’s a super simple ingredients list if that’s something that matters to you but what i love about this is that it has a bit of a thicker texture so it feels a little bit more substantial on the skin than a typical hydrating serum cones mq10 is a really great antioxidant so i definitely do recommend using this in the morning underneath sunscreen that’s how i personally use it and i’ve been really really enjoying it now the next serum that i want to talk about i don’t actually have with me i thought i had it but i guess i got rid of the empty but um crave beauty’s great barrier relief is such a staple gbr is truly in my band-aid for damaged broken skin barrier type situations that i often find myself in if i over exfoliate using retinol or alpha hydroxy acids yep i do that sometimes and it is not good but fortunately great barrier relief does take my skin back to a healthy place because it’s formulated with really skin barrier friendly ingredients like ceramides and niacinamide and tomato oil which is like the signature star ingredient in gbr i know they call it a serum but i definitely think it’s more of a moisturizer like a very thin a moisturizer as opposed to an ultra rich thick serum it’s just semantics at the end of the day they call it a serum so i’m including it in the serum category but it’s definitely a very very thick emollient type serum so take without what you will in the same kind of vibe is strategia liquid gold which i have seriously been loving i think the main difference between gbr and strategia liquid gold is the fact that gbr focuses a lot on to mono oil whereas the stratia liquid gold is very much a sea buckthorn oil type product because it has that really beautiful yellow color i don’t know if you can see that but the yellow color is because of the sea buckthorn oil in it really really friendly to the skin barrier so it has those really replenishing really nourishing ingredients so i’ve definitely been using this a lot lately because the weather is getting a little bit colder and i do find that my skin needs something more substantial than just the typical you know hydrating serum and then moisturizer i do love layering this underneath my moisturizer and it’s just beautiful this is definitely something that you can use every single day so i definitely think of it as like a daily vitamin like you take your vitamins and then you have your liquid gold okay in terms of sunscreens there were some really stand out sunscreens of 2020 probably the one that i didn’t shut up about the most is misha essence sun milk i won’t talk about it too much because i’m sure you’re sick of hearing about it but this is really just my favorite lightweight sunscreen for summertime when the weather is hot and it’s humid and you want something that’s not sticky not greasy something just totally effortless on your skin this is a sunscreen for you what i really enjoy about this additionally is the fact that it has zero white cast on me at all like a lot of sunscreens and if you are a person of color as well you definitely know this a lot of sunscreens make us feel very ghostly very ashy very pale but this sunscreen because it’s formulated with organic sunscreen filters specifically organic sunscreen filters that are more popular in asia and in europe like tenosurp s and juvenile a those sunscreen filters are a lot more sophisticated a lot more photo stable and they don’t leave a white cast this is definitely a new sunscreen this is the fenty skin hydrovisor this came out this year and i was not expecting to like this because this is an american sunscreen meaning that this has organic sunscreen filters in there that are a little bit less sophisticated in my opinion than the asian and european ones but shockingly i really really like this it is really pretty it has such a beautiful and dewy finish on it definitely no white cast definitely no irritation it is quite perfumey quite fragranced so if that’s something you’re sensitive to definitely stay away from this but i have really been liking this to use as my morning sunscreen so what i’ve been doing a lot lately is going for a walk with my dogs in the morning and so usually i’ll shower after i take my dogs for a walk and so i don’t want to like do my whole skincare routine and then shower and take everything off so what i’ll do is just apply a layer of the sunscreen on top of my unwashed face which i know sounds gross but i do want to protect my skin when i’m out in the sun so i’ll apply the sunscreen to my unwashed face go about my business take the dogs for a walk run a couple errands come back home and then take a shower this is just great for just protecting my skin while keeping my skin hydrated another sunscreen that i really really love is the beet shield from crave beauty this is the sunscreen that i’m currently wearing on my skin right now and it’s the sunscreen that i’m using pretty much exclusively nowadays because it’s so just moisturizing it has so many antioxidants in it it’s again formulated with those asian sunscreen filters that i just really prefer this definitely is a more radiant finish which i really love around this time of year because it’s colder outside i don’t have to worry about humidity as much and so this is definitely such a gorgeous sunscreen it’s very easy to apply you can definitely over apply it if you want to which you probably should because i feel like no one really applies enough sunscreen myself included if i’m feeling lazy like yeah i definitely don’t apply enough but i strive to apply at least two fingers worth to my entire face and with a texture like this it’s very easy to apply an adequate amount of sunscreen another sunscreen that really is just so cosmetically elegant is the cosrx aloe soothing sun cream i’ve talked about this since at least 2018 when i first tried it and just completely fell in love this has such a really gorgeous like moisturizer feel to it it does not feel like a sunscreen at all again as you’ll see with a lot of these sunscreens it has those asian sunscreen filters that are just so much better like they’re more cosmetically elegant they don’t leave a white cast they’re more photostable they’re not as irritating as other ones approved in the us so i really just prefer asian sunscreen formulations none of these sunscreens are crazy expensive either all of them are below 25 i believe which is amazing and then in terms of masks i did use a lot of masks in 2020 some of them are very underwhelming some of them definitely performed better than others so probably my favorite mask of all of 2020 is the mugwort mask from the brand i’m from this is a korean brand and it’s just such a beautiful mask so mugwort itself is a very medicinal smelly ingredient and it’s super super super soothing i love that quality of mugwort it’s just crazy soothing it’s very hydrating so this is a great mask that won’t dry your skin out it is like a gel texture with little particles in it so i really love applying this to my skin in the morning and then rinsing it off in the shower it just works really well for my skin if my skin is feeling really dry really irritated this is the mask that i run to and unlike other masks which generally don’t really have that much of an effect on my skin because you wash it off after a certain amount of time this actually does have lasting results on my skin now in terms of masks that don’t have results on my skin but i still really enjoyed it from just purely a textural standpoint from a sensorial experience standpoint definitely the mask that stands out to me is the fresh rose face mask i don’t have it with me because i ran out but that face mask is like a gel texture with little rose petals in it and it just smells incredible it’s super hydrating super cooling it kind of de-puffs your face a little bit when you wash it off you don’t notice crazy amazing results the same way that you do with this where this will really take down redness and irritation but i will say the fresh froze face mask is just really fun to use it’s a delight to have in class and i really do love that mask a lot if you’re looking for a mask that’s just fun to use and you’re not really expecting you know dramatic results from it definitely check out the fresh rose face mask she’s a little bit bougie she’s a little bit expensive but i do think that if you’re looking for like a really fun indulgent spa like experience you can’t go wrong with that mask so those rounded up stratia there were so many brands that i had never tried before that hadn’t even come out because fenty skin did come out in 2020 um there were a lot of brands that i hadn’t tried before but i finally skincare because i have a giant backlog of products that i need to test out but i’m probably buying some leggings some sports bras some clothing probably that kind of thing but let me know what you’re
