ANTI-REDNESS SKIN CARE: AM & PM ROUTINE| DR DRAY

hey guys I hope your week is going well get excited you all have asked for this video for some time and that is a AM and PM skin care routine for facial redness I know a lot of you out there cope with facial redness those of you with dry skin sensitive skin and rosacea prone skin dry patches and redness kind of go hand in hand but for those of you with oily skin and acne prone skin redness is a key part of what you’re dealing with as well and with mature skin also redness can veer its way into the picture and those of you with combination skin there’s likely a part of the combination includes facial redness so the skincare routine I’m going to show you guys today and demonstrate for you all hopefully will meet your needs address your redness and the products I’m gonna recommend and show you guys are easy to find and affordable I’m partnering with Walmart again on today’s video as part of their here for every beauty campaign that really celebrates inclusivity and really brings beauty to everyone as a dermatologist I love Lamar and I always tell patients that the products that I recommend they can find in Willmar I know I’m sending them somewhere where they’re not going to blow the bank with things that they need to take care of their skin and so you know some of the most popular videos on this channel are of me going into Walmart shopping the skincare so partnering with Walmart I always enjoy because they let me use whatever I want in the video so long as I can get it at Walmart which is pretty easy to do and everything that I’ve always recommended to you guys they carry all of all of the best brands all the dermatologist recommended brands Eucerin therapy Neutrogena mani cream and so you know those products that I’ve recommended in other videos you will see here and hopefully this video builds on my prior videos and that it demonstrates how to use those products in a effective and easy to maintain skin care routine for the sake of clarity I’m going to start the routine with the p.

m. skincare routine and so the very first step should be cleansing your skin this is important you want to remove dirt oil sebum that is built up on the surface of your skin throughout the day you also want to get rid of any makeup that you might have worn throughout the day your sunscreen layers that are still left behind if you wear eye makeup or mascara that should come off as well as we go throughout our day allergens pollens pollutants they also settle on the skin so it’s really important to remove that but for people with redness you have to be really conscientious with cleansing your skin harsh cleansers can dry out the skin and exacerbate redness over aggressive scrubbing whether it be from a chemical or mechanical exfoliation or just aggressively rubbing your face can also exacerbate redness and using extremes of temperature in the water that you use to cleanse your skin or excessively washing your face can also dry out the skin and irritate the skin and further worsen the appearance of redness I advocate a double cleanse method that first starts with an oil-based cleanser and then moves on to a gentle non stop cleanser you see an oil based cleanser as the first capitalizes on the principle of like dissolves like and then the oil in the cleanser will melt that dirt sebum oil and makeup off of your face it will begin to break it up my favorite oil based cleanser to used for this first step is Abilene Abilene is a great affordable product that is fragrance free dermatologists are recommended it contains mineral oil as well as petrol bottom and paraffin these are great ingredients for skin care there are some of our favorites mineral oil in particular is great not only as the skin conditioning agent but as a cleanser it does not clog pores or exacerbate acne we have laboratory studies both in animal models as well as humans showing that mineral oil is non-comedogenic mineral oil also it does not absorb into the skin significantly whatsoever therefore for people with sensitivity this is great because it’s not something that is going to challenge your immune system or that your immune system is going to have to deal with it just nicely sweeps in and can cleanse and condition the surface of the skin which is really important in addressing the issues surrounding redness just to get a small amount of it onto your fingertips you can kind of heat it up a little bit in your fingers and go ahead and start patting it gently onto the face and massage it onto your skin in a gentle circular manner avoid aggressively rubbing or tugging at your face too much because that can cause those blood vessels in your skin to dilate and exacerbate redness just focus on on melting that mineral oil and petrol bottom into the onto the surface of the skin to break up all of those layers of dirt and grime and makeup and you can also use this safely around the eyes just don’t get it directly into your eyes so be very careful about that but it can be swept over the eyelids over the eyelashes you don’t need any water to put the elbe lien cleanser on your face you can just dot it right onto your your face as is at the end of the day and begin this step after you have worked it all over at the surface of your skin maybe over the course of 30 seconds to a minute then you’re going to come in with a second step and the reason it’s important to come in with a second gentle non soak cleanser is that you actually want to remove that broken up layer of makeup and mascara sunscreen you don’t want to just wipe it off because some will stay behind I’ll just kind of smear off and you’ll have like a smear of that broken up stuff left behind a residue you don’t want that so you want to come in with a gentle cleanser my absolute favorite one is Vani cream gentle cleanser this is fragrance free anything baby cream and so I recommend just using one to two pumps of this onto your hand and you can put it immediately onto your face you don’t actually have to even will add water at this point you can just put it directly on top of that Whaley dirt layer and begin working it up into a lather you also can take a little bit of water a few droplets of water in your hands and kind of splash that on your face and begin to work it up into a slight little lather now I will list everything that I’m using in the description box but I’ll also list some alternatives while I love Dani cream and there are a ton of other great gentle cleansers that you can use so for each of the steps I’m going to be talking about in this video in the description box I will list some alternative products as well all of which of course you can find a Walmart or on Walmart calm but after you have worked up that cleanser allow their layer then go ahead and rinse it off and use lukewarm water you don’t want to use extremes of temperature because that can exacerbate redness personally at this point I actually step into my shower to bathe for the evening and while I’m in the shower the water from the shower is what I use to rinse off all that all of that broken up gift I cut off of my face it comes off nicely and you will find that when you double cleanse like this after you rinse your face it is unlike any other cleansing experience your skin does not feel stripped whatsoever it feels actually like you just moisturize it feels soft conditioned and this is great because it really mitigates skin barrier disruption that is one of the main issues with cleansing is that soaps and cleansers they disrupt the skin barrier and that leads to loss of water out of the skin and as water evaporates out of our skin then we get dryness and worsening of redness so the double cleanse approach really mitigates that and conditions simultaneously while cleansing so it’s a great it’s a great way to do it alright the next step involves a basic moisturizer and I recommend applying the moisturizer to your face immediately while your skin is still down and this makes sense because what you’re trying to achieve with using your moisturizer is you trying to slow down as much as possible trans epidermal water loss so apply the moisturizer immediately to a damp skin that takes advantage of the moisture on your face and locks it in there and will slow down and put the brakes on trans epidermal water loss thus preventing dryness with RedNet with issues around redness sensitivity and dry skin and even oily prone in acne skin sometimes really heavy heavy duty heavy moisturizers can just feel uncomfortable in the case of rosacea that can actually precipitate a flush and for people with with acne prints can sometimes really really heavy moisturizers in some people can actually lead to you exacerbations of their acne so the moisturizers that I recommend are lightweight they’re comfortable they’re oil-free they’re not super heavy so these issues will not arise the moisturizers that I recommend also contain active ingredients that target redness such as niacinamide and licorice root extract one of my favorites is bioderma sensibio AR so I love this one I also love set of fills redness really night moisturizer so I will list all of these down below in the description box for you guys put that on immediately to the damp skin [Music] after you moisturize don’t forget your lips my favorite product on my lips is the syrupy healing ointment you guys know I use this every night to my lips it’s great for sealian trims epidermal water loss and actually really with continued use I find my lips stay plump and hydrated and just look healthier if I stop using this for any period of time I tend to lick my lips and I eat a lot of fruits that can be irritating lips and I find that I don’t use this I will get drying dry cracked lips fissures at the corner of my lips and if you’re somebody who drools in your sleep this will save the skin of your lips if you wake up with redness and crack cracking in the corners of your mouth this is a great product for you just slather on the lips and it’s very comfortable to wear it has petrol bottom it also has saram eyes which are great for the skin barrier and restoring the skin barrier so this is a favorite of mine and that is the last step of the nighttime skincare routine you don’t need any exotic toners essences active ingredients they’re all in the moisturizers whether it be nice cinema or licorice root or ceramides you can get that delivered to your skin and basic fragrance free moisturizer that’s not going to be irritating so that’s really it and then get a good night’s sleep redness has not helped by sleep depravity so get a good night’s sleep now for the morning skincare routine the decision to cleanse your face again it’s kind of up to you personally I do not cleanse my skin again I don’t need to there’s really no need to wash your face twice a day particularly if you have dry skin sensitive skin or rosacea prone skin excessive washing of the face of the skin can actually worsen dryness and redness but for those of you who have oily skin or acne again you may find that you prefer to cleanse your skin again that you you make you make a little bit more sebum oil and overnight you make some more and we wake up your face feels oily and you want to wash it again that’s kind of up to you you know your skin on that the decision is yours if you are somebody who likes to cleanse your skin in the morning stay tuned I’ll give I’ll give a note about that in the routine in a moment but say for example you’re like me and you don’t want to cleanse in the morning or you’re falling with with just the one cleanse the first step in the morning should just be putting on sunscreen sunscreen is the most important aspect of any skin care routine every deck protects you from the environmental damages from the Sun and it also reduces the chance to skin cancer aging and for people coping with redness redness is exacerbated by by sun exposure and so you need to protect your scanner from the Sun a favorite of mine for people all skin types is Eucerin daily protection this is a combination sunscreen so it has ink in it which will give you good coverage against UVB the raised eye damage the DNA and our skin cells as well as contribute to skin cancer formation and a sunburn but also will protect you against UVA arrays that age of her skin cause wrinkles and also contribute to hyperpigmentation so the zinc in this will help protect against that and this also will have some chemical filters in it that will protect you against UVB so it’s a good broad-spectrum sunscreen and it is fragrance free so important in your sunscreens the other nice thing about this particular sunscreen is that it doesn’t leave much of any of a white couch when you first put it on it does leave a cast but if you once you allow it to dry totally the cast fades so it’s really friendly in that regard and it doesn’t dry greasy it dries mount it doesn’t pill and it’s really comfortable to wear it’s very hydrating most sunscreens are in fact moisturizers so this is your morning moisturizer with Green and I recommend it again in the description box I’ll list some alternatives to this sunscreen is one of those things that’s very individualized and there are a ton of other great options out there so check the description box sunscreen on the face needs to cover your eyes needs to cover your ears and your neck don’t forget those spots you guys have seen how I put on sunscreen it’s important to put enough on and it’s important not to miss areas the main areas that frequently get missed are the forehead around the eyes the ears the tops of the ears and kind of the area towards the side of the face right before your ears those are areas where guess what skin cancer pops up so don’t forget those areas also the upper lip and around the nose and your neck don’t forget your neck so don’t forget to put sunscreen everywhere that’s going to be sun exposed that includes the tops of your hands as well and so don’t forget those areas but you know for me I keep most of my body covered with fabrics so just making sure that these Sun exposed areas have a good layer and don’t forget your lips now you can’t use sunscreen or your skin really effectively on your lips it just doesn’t adhere very well it can be very drying and uncomfortable so I recommend always using a dedicated lip SPF to your lips and my favorite is Vani cream lip protectant this is a mineral only sunscreen so it has it just zinc in it and it also has titanium dioxide and is dimethicone so it’s a skin protectant it will help those of you out there with dry cracked lips this is a great product to use during the daytime to reduce that irritation but also to protect your skin from the damaging effects ultraviolet radiation this one does leave a little bit of a white cast to the lips when you first put it on but it almost kind of dries down into this subtle pink hue that’s kind of like a lip balm or a like a tinted lip product but it really just kind of enhances your own natural lip color I really love it very very gentle and wonderful and it’s water-resistant so for those of you who don’t wash your face twice a day that’s it that’s really that’s basically the end of the skin care routine for you if you are somebody who washes your wants to wash your face in the morning this is how to do it use you don’t need to double cleanse at this point just using the vanity cream facial cleanser for example suffice is in the morning just a quick gentle cleanse again with lukewarm water and then I suggest after you rinse that off to again follow up with a moisturizer immediately like the abide dermis NC by one and then allow that to dry that really slows down the trans epidermal water loss process that can occur with cleansing a second time or any time so I recommend doing that and you might ask well can’t I just put my sunscreen on immediately is it a sunscreen and moisturizer most sunscreens actually would work while doing that but not all of them some of them don’t mix well with the water on the surface of your skin and can kind of clump out and pill up when you do that so I think a better choice is to apply a moisturizer on first luckily our eyes are dry totally and then to your drawing moisturize space then put on your sunscreen as I as I showed previously yeah so that’s it for the morning skincare routine and you know with a little piece in there are cleansing if you want to but an added step at the end anyone can do and I do you might choose to do is to come on over that with a tinted sunscreen to kind of camouflage some of the white cast from the base layer sunscreen and also to get a little bit of color correction that will camouflage some of that redness nicely sunscreen that will do this is the Cetaphil redness relief and moisturizer this is specifically targeting people with redness and really nicely color corrects background redness and it’s one of my favorites you know it’s sold Cetaphil sells at Allis a tinted SPF but it’s really more of a CC cream it’s one of my favorites Physicians Formula also makes a fantastic one as well that all this down below in the description box for you guys and I really just put this like on my cheeks around my eyes areas where I have a lot of redness and I want color correction and it really does kind of give a nice luminosity to the skin and doing us the Cenacle product is marketed as a it’s a tinted SPF but really what it is in my opinion is a CC cream because the SPF is a small tube so it’s not really enough to cover your whole face as a base layer sunscreen on a consistent basis and it’s only SPF 20 you want an SPF of at least 30 so it’s not a high enough SPF but it’s great as kind of dusting on top to give you some added color correction and add some luminosity it’s fragrance free as everything when I recommend yeah that piece is not essential you know it’s totally up to you but it does give a little bit of nice cause nieces there for camouflaging redness particularly on the cheeks where you have a higher density of blood vessels and redness can be more of a problem also on the nose or on the forehead you may want to use it or on the chin even wherever you have redness and are looking to you high back but yeah that is the morning and evening skincare routine for targeting redness for people coping with redness no matter your skin type oily acne prone eczema rosacea sensitive mature combination if you’re coming with redness these products and this routine will hopefully help you out so thank you Walmart for partnering with me on today’s video for carrying these great products and something really for everyone I hope you guys enjoyed it if you liked it give it a thumbs up share it with your friends and as always don’t forget sunscreen and subscribe I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow bye [Music]
