2019 Index pt. 1 | Most Memorable Skincare
all right hey guys so it’s finally time to discuss some 2019 favorites and so I skipped the November and December favorites videos because I wanted to do kind of your end favorites so I’ve decided to call this the 10th reforms 2019 index because I’ve basically kept a wealth of data with all the products I tried in 2019 a lot of new brands that I’ve tried that aren’t new to the market but we’re new to me so I’m going to use a similar format to ones that I’ve seen here on YouTube mostly from Trish of green Beauty Trish has done it in a similar format and so has Jen from aloha Jen’s BD blog so what they’ve done is they’ve categorized their favorites in terms of usage so in which step which product was basically their favorite and I thought that was a brilliant way of doing it so I hope you doing the same I have my list right here I’m going to break it up in to morning and evening skincare and just do similar steps for each and I’ll list out the different products that I liked for it so for my morning routine usually I just use water to kind of give my face rinse and then I’ll go in with a toner and then followed by some sort of serum and hydrosol and a facial oil so my favourite toner of this year for the morning has to be the Marie Veronique and racino holy balancing hypotonic you’ve seen it in my October favorites you’ve seen it in my empties videos I cannot rave about this product enough I think it’s highly underrated how great of a product it is and I think it’s just perfect for a morning cleanse it’s balancing as it says in the name it’s super hydrating and I just like using it with a cotton round to kind of wipe away any grime that may have collected throughout the night and I think it’s just a nice gentle morning cleanse for my skin which tends to like less is more versus more is more and after toner I’ll basically go in with a hydrosol and the standout morning hydrosol or I maybe hydrosol in the evening too is the wild care rosemary and bay hydrosol which you’ve also seen in my favorites videos and my empties videos and that hydrosol is just so good it’s been on my mind since it became an empties and I’ve been one to get a new one but I have a bunch of other Hydra cells and I’m currently going through and so I’ve decided to wait until I finish what I currently have and then buy and repurchase the rosemary and bay hydrosol but it was just an excellent Hydra saw it was super soothing hydrating my skin absolutely loved it it’s a very gentle scent it was just such a standout product then moving on to the serum category if you’ve watched my previous videos you know that I don’t really have the budget to go all out in terms of the serums category so I don’t have multiple rotating serums at any given time the only one that I used this year that I absolutely loved was of course the heart of gold’ Sweetbriar hydrating under this thing is just so good Sweetbriar hydrating nectar is perhaps the most standout product for me this year I purchased it through a one-time box wallet box when they were doing the Sweetbriar model of Gamache gel and the sea change cleansing balm all three from heart of gold and I really wasn’t expecting much from this just because to me serums are always kind of a bonus to my skin my skin doesn’t necessarily need them but whenever I do use them it’s a nice added bonus but Sweetbriar was immediately results-driven for me I think when the very first time I tried it it immediately calmed down my redness in my skin like an actual immediate effect that I saw it like I had applied it to my skin I turned around from the mirror to get something else when I turned back my redness was gone jaw-droppingly shockingly good that I haven’t veered away from it since I’m still working on that original bottle from box wallop but I’ve since purchased a backup from when heart of gold was doing they’re kind of like holiday sale so I already have a backup of this waiting for me that’s how much I love it I can’t recommend this enough if you have sensitive skin if you find that your skin gets irritated easily or is overly itchy sometimes when you use too much product or a specific product that doesn’t melt well with your skin this is a great kind of fast way of calming your skin bringing it back to its healthy balance I highly recommend that you check this out if you haven’t already and then morning facial oil is none other than the heart of gold’ Northern Lights oil serum you have also seen me rave about this on favourites videos before and if you follow me on Instagram then you know that when I was trialing the sample size of this I accidentally dropped a sample vial and it shattered my heart and I really couldn’t live without this so I actually picked up this bottle when I visited my esthetician here in Portland and I was so happy that to have it back in my life even though I probably only went maybe like three days without it but even then I was already missing it that’s how you know that I love this for anyone with I’d say sensitive and combo skin maybe even veering on oily this is an excellent oil for that it is really balancing to me it’s the only facial oil that I’ve ever tried that throughout the day to feel my skin actually breathing it plays well with others I’ve mixed it in with the Sweetbriar to make like a custom emulsion which is also excellent I paired it with Hydra Sol’s I’ve also paired it with different brands of skin care products and it’s worked well with those two the scent is somewhat I guess sweeter just because it is from the eel angling and blue tansy I think I actually don’t prefer the scent of either of those but I love or my skin loves the effect of them and so I just tend to power through it but I think it’s still all of these scent it’s not overpowering I just think it’s a lovely oil so I think this is an excellent excellent oil if you are acne prone like me sensitive like me I think you’d really love it all right so now moving on to the evening skin care first thing I do at the end of the day whether I’m wearing makeup or not is to cleanse my face so my favorite cleanser of this year actually can I do two favorite cleansers of this year I’m gonna do two favorite cleansers of this year I’m sure this very first one will be of no surprise but it’s the Marie Veronique Christina holy pure essential oil free oil cleanser so if you’re new to my channel you probably haven’t heard of it before but if you’ve been a subscriber for a while you know that I absolutely love this oil cleanser it’s super affordable to me because it comes at four fluid ounces $40 it lasts an extremely long time I think a solid like four months with daily use and that’s even sometimes with like extra usage for glossa or deeper cleanses I think it’s just a really affordable cleanser it’s super gentle the ingredients list is impeccable there’s no essential oils so it’s especially perfect for those with sensitive skin but it’s just a really unique again highly underrated oil cleanser I know everyone has a different take on the scent I have accustomed it to you know chicken broth I’ve heard someone else say that it reminds them of sort of biscuit which is also interesting I know Trish also has her own cent relation to this so the scent obviously is a bit of a chameleon and depends on the user but because there’s no essential oils in it there’s nothing to fragrance it I think it’s just an absolutely perfect oil cleanser there’s nothing really on the market that’s quite like it to me it’s always gonna go to I’ve gone through ten bottles of it probably more and the reason I wanted to do two oil cleansers is because I’d say for the majority of the year I was using the more unique christina holy oil cleanser but towards the end of the year i finally invested in a cleanser that i really truly loved after having sampled it earlier in the year and it’s none other than the heart of gold astral traveller cleansing fluid now I know I just said that the maria cristina holy oil cleanser is something truly unique in the marketplace but i would say this is equally unique I know you’re just thinking oh is this just an oil cleanser and it’s heart of gold so you know it already smells great and you know it performs but I honestly have never tried an oil cleanser like this nothing moves stagnation in my skin as this puppy it’s a miracle worker I really don’t I mean I know what’s in it because she lists four ingredients but it’s just the formulation of this is stellar like I said I’m an acne prone but I’m also sensitive skin and this one contains a bunch of really great ingredients that are all naturally high in salicylic acid which is great for acne I’ve never used an oil cleanser that has quickened the healing period of acne as this one by that I mean I could have a small acne spot popping up anywhere on my face and it’ll be even like right before the point where it gets kind of like that swollen red bump and then it starts hurting so before and even if the acne spot is currently at the red swollen bump phase if it hasn’t turned into a Whitehead yet this will make it do that and it brings it up so quickly that I don’t know how it does it but it just really moves all the stagnation in my skin that it immediately progresses the timeline of my acne spots so that it is either like palpable or very close to healing and it’s just such a miracle worker if I have anything that’s like a really persistent cystic acne spot kind of thing this will heal it I don’t know what it is I love it I don’t know why more people haven’t talked about you maybe thinking maybe people haven’t talked about it because it’s actually quite a pricey cleanser 50 mils which is 1.
7 ounces so in comparison to the Marie Veronique Christina holy oil cleanser that one is for fluid ounces for $40 and this one is $44 for less than happy mode but it’s just it’s so good also need very little of it I think at most you should use three pumps it seems like a small amount in the palm of your hand but it’s just such a fantastic formula that you don’t need anymore than that I think on days when I don’t wear makeup I would just use like one and a half to two pumps and that’s perfectly fine on days where I am wearing more like makeup SPF base eye shadow I think two and a half pumps to three pumps is perfect me knowing how much it costs and how little of an amount you get I don’t use this as a daily cleanser I’ll use something else as a daily cleanser and then really save this for basically like the week and a half where I usually get a lot of hormonal acne then this is great for that time or if I just happen to be stressed eating a lot of more sugar or something and there’s more acne that’s when I’ll use this but I don’t use it every day so after a cleanser then I would use a toner and the evening toner I loving is another heart of gold and this is the star keeper mineral toner when I went to visit my esthetician Rebecca she had used this during my facial and it was such a different feeling that I immediately asked her what it was and she said it was the heart of gold star keeper I think I got this shortly after the facial it’s like that’s how much of an impression it made on me it feels firming it feels balancing my favorite way of using it is spritzing it on a cotton round and then wiping my face with this and learn to how use some rv4 unique balancing hypotonic but I’ve also used it where I just spritz it directly on my face or in the palm of my hand and then kind of like Pat it onto the skin and I love basically any way of incorporating this into my routine I will and then my favorite evening hydrosol would still be the wild care of rosemary and they hydrosol it’s such a great one I think a close second would be the heart of gold the Tulsi Ganesha and Primrose hydrosol it was the seasonal hydrosol I think for autumn and that one was really great as well I remember it being super balancing it was great for my hormonal acne I think and the scent was beautiful so the only reason I didn’t list that as my favorite evening hydrosol is just because it’s not available year-round it’s a seasonal thing but I know if she does it again next season I would definitely buy it Oh another one is the heart of gold rose and chamomile one which was another seasonal hydrolic she did in summer I believe and if that happens again next year I’m definitely getting them so you can see that I love the heart of gold hydro lots as well and my favorite evening facial oil of this year has to be the heart of gold liminal spaces autumn oils here this brings back such great memories is currently an empty and so it’s waiting to be filmed for an empties video but I know after I finished the empties video I’m most likely going to keep this bottle just because of like sentimental reasons I think this was the first heart of gold item that I tried it was also the first giveaway I had ever won I was runner-up for the giveaway but still winning one was just awesome this facial oil is the first vitamin C product and I guess plant version of retinol product that my skin has ever liked usually if somebody has vitamin C in it or some sort of retinol it usually dries my skin out and then causes it to be irritated like a bit sensitized usually I’ll have acne pop up afterwards when I use it so it’s tough for me to find a vitamin C product that works with my skin the closest one I think is the Marie Veronique vitamin C and E Froelich acid serum that is the only other one that I think is a gentle enough vitamin C product for my skin to handle but in terms of performance this one definitely outweighs that one I really regret not picking up a full-size of this when she was having it on sale but it’s just because I had a plethora of other facial oils that I want to use that what I had before I got something else if you’ve watched my other videos you probably know by now that I like to use facial oils that are a bit more active in the evening just because I find that the evening is best for my skin to take anything that’s a bit stronger and it’s just a great time for my skin to really soak it up and this one does come with the warning to only use in the evening because it does contain bacio oil which is the plant retinol so because of that it does cause sensitivity with sunlight so don’t use it in the morning only use it in the evening but this one is just again another results-driven product I’ve seen my hyperpigmentation which has been super stubborn nothing has brightened that faster than this product also the scent is just so warming it feels like cozy which is great I absolutely loved using this oil so really regret not purchasing a sighs fine with that but come next year that’s what I’ll be doing and then last if my skin is on the drier side or as we’re in the colder months I usually like to top off my facial oil with something else before I go to bed just so it can really like lock in moisture but what I’ve really been loving for evening time is the Parra Chaya beauty balm so this st.
miniature trial version I have never tried a bomb like this one again my esthetician Rebecca had given me a sample of it and she used it during my facial I was first really drawn to it because of the scent I have never smelled anything this green before to me it smells like a forest it’s so wonderful but really what is so magical about this balm is how it melts but basically if you use a spatula and take out a small amount and put it on your fingers it just melts on contact and turns into this beautiful like unctuous oil and I just find it so healing to my skin the reason I don’t love balms is because I am acne prone and I do have preferences in terms of texture on my skin like how a product would feel on my skin so that’s mainly the reason why I don’t gravitate towards balms because I’ve never found one that provides moisture but also makes my skin feel like it can breathe and this does that that’s why I was so excited when I tried this because I’ve never met a balm that does that before it’s great to put over acne spots which I would never have guessed to do and it definitely speeds up the healing time with other bombs I think it just ends up feeling a bit more clogged and I guess the acne spot doesn’t heal as quickly but with this one like I can put it over acne spots and it doesn’t it definitely doesn’t make it worse and if anything it quickens the healing process I absolutely love also I spoke with the creator of part Botanica her name is Christy she also recommends that you can use this as a cleansing balm or a hydrating mask if you need I have thought about doing that but at the time I didn’t have enough to try both methods so I knew it would be terrific as a balm cleanser I can already picture it happening but at the time my skin was feeling super dry and so I decided to try to use it as a mask so she just recommended to put on a thin layer pop in the shower and let the steam kind of do its work for 10 minutes and then rinse it off and when I came out of the shower and rinsed off the remaining excess my skin was so smooth so plump I can’t recommend this enough all right then moving on to masks and treatments I really can only do what would be best is probably once a week treatment but I have done twice a week during winter time just because I find I need extra moisture and extra exploration so I wanted to include a few different types of mess that kind of cater to different areas of concern so my first one is a moisture mask there was no better one than the heart of gold modern love Gamache gel and I would even categorize this as both like moisturizing and exfoliating because I use it both ways so as an exfoliating mask this is also terrific it leaves my skin baby smooth and I love it the scent is otherworldly to me it smells like Christmas but not in terms of like baked goods Christmas in terms of like winter air Christmas it’s a beautiful scent I also love using this as a moisture mask so I’ll just put basically the same amount I used for a co-wash gel and maybe like a little more on my face I’ll usually leave it on for maybe like five minutes before I hop in the shower and then it naturally like winces off and this just leaves my skin feeling moisturized nourished overall just feeling good and then for my favorite exfoliating and I would say detox mask is the H is for love propolis I actually have a full-size version that I haven’t even opened yet just tucked away I really only use that mask twice this year and that’s because my aesthetician had given me a very lovely and nice sample of it and I just tried to split it up into two uses first I try to add is kind of a mild exfoliant so I use like a very small amount mixed it with water and then kind of wash my face with it and that’s a lovely way of using it I would also probably mix it in with another cleanser to next time to see how that would be but I imagine that to be just as nice but the real greatness of this mask is when you use it as a proper face mask that means getting the ratio of powder to water right and then having enough to spread across your face and neck it does have clays in it and the thing with clay is that you have to keep it wet for the detox properties to keep working but I have seen it kind of done in demo by the formulator and creator and founder herself where she does just let it dry on the skin and the directions even say to kind of let it do its work dry and then to reconstitute it with a damp washcloth so that’s what I did for the second time when I used it I did it I use it as a full mask on my face and a little down my neck and I let it dry it also smells incredible and I remember a wedding a washcloth and kind of just like putting it over my face and letting the steam and the moisture from the washcloth reconstitute the clay mask and it was such interesting feeling it was just a really nice experience but clays in the mask definitely hardened and so using that damp washcloth to kind of like the steam it off again was really really nice because it made the clay more pliable again and then it was easier to remove that way and my skin just looked so good I saw an overall evening of skin tone a brightening effect it made my skin look clearer healthy and even like a bit Chloe even though it’s more a clay mask and like a moisture mask it was really incredible and I loved it so much that really the one thing that I wanted to buy during the sales was this mask because I loved it so much I obviously haven’t used it long term so I can’t really talk about that but it was just such a beautiful experience that even just after two uses I already know I love it so I had to include in this one doesn’t be last mask I want to talk about was kind of like a detox and also a low mask so for this one I actually had to combine two masks and this was again something that Rebecca and my esthetician had done during my facial which was to combine the para Botanica the neti mask and the Hara Botanica so my repair mask fils again are the trial sizes and I don’t know if I can separate these two now having tried them together because I always end up deciding to combine them both because I know the results that it gives and my skin loves that one so much that I just failed to use them separately on their own although I recently did use the similar repair mask alone as a kind of like a moisture mask and it was really nice but again when I think of these two to combine together is when the magic I think really happens it’s another hard-hitting mask combo my skin instantly feels refreshed not clogged usually I’ll do this if I do feel like I’d have some congested areas just because of the properties of the power masks in combination Detox’s it decongest s– also at the same time is very hydrating and nourishing this is a honey based mask so it’s really calming soothing it really just ticks all the boxes when these two are combined together I am saving like a good portion of the para neck D mask to to a side-by-side comparison with the HS for love mask just because the ingredients are so similar that I do wonder how they differ and difference in results I guess because in terms of my collection I wouldn’t buy both of them so I do want to do a side-by-side to see which one I kind of prefer I just wanted to give these two a huge rave because my skin really loves it it just clears everything up it makes my skin super glowy it’s really an excellent excellent dude so I know that was kind of a long one hopefully you guys found something new maybe that you could try in 2020 if you are so inclined I just want to share design up of my favorites because I think I really did have an eye-opening year in terms of skincare obviously I found a lot of brands that I truly truly loved from this year part of gold being a major one as you’ve seen from this video wild carrot being another excellent one with their Hydra Sol’s Marie Veronique and Christina holy of course because I love that line part Botanica was also standout plus HS for love it’s been a great year of trying new brands and finding kind of new favorites and new things that work well with my skin so I hope you enjoyed this tender forms 2019 index skincare version and will do makeup next see you guys soon bye you
